The problem with handhelds is that they're a shrinking market. Last year mobile phone games outsold handheld games - unsurprisingly, since Samsung's Galaxy S III, as an example, has sold 50 million units in a year compared to 3DS's 30 million in two years, and that's just one of many Android phones. Nintendo's handhelds will probably keep afloat but won't be the same kind of cash cow they've been in the past. On the other hand, after the Vita flop, I wouldn't be surprised if Sony pulled out of the market.

 

Of course mobile games outsold handheld games - average mobile game is 5-20 times cheaper than a handheld game, but most of mobile games are utter trash. There's some good ones, but it's like a few drops of water in the ocean. Also touch controls suck for most games except puzzles and turn-based strategy etc. So there will be always a place for a good handheld console. And 3DS already got enough good games with more coming.

Vita, well i'll buy one, but just for new Ys and maybe 5-10 other games, that's about it. Who need console without games? Also Sony did it again with proprietary very expensive memory cards and to make things worse, no more USB mass storage, just some shitty software.

 

Watch Vita sales go way up once the PS4 is out.

As for smartphone games. it's like Dos Shovelware, the shit sells but it's still shit.

 

I like the Vita but it does have a lot of things going against it. The main problems are the Price, The price of the Memory, Size of the Memory, and the fact it barely has games. Funny thing, the other day I was browsing Amazon and saw a Class 10 64gb Sd card made from Sony for less than $40. Why the hell didn't Sony use this as the Vita's Memory? They would've sold so much better if they did. It's nice that it's going to have cross play on the PS4 but honestly its not something I'm going to use too often. I've tried remote play with the PSP and honestly, I don't know what all the hype is about. I'd rather use my dualshock anyway. I really hope PSO2 comes out soon. That's the one game I know of that will definitely help the Vita. Persona 4 Gold is awesome though so at least it'll hold me until then. I cant stand this "rise of the smartphone/tablet" crap. I have an ipad and honestly, the games are pure grade A shit (most of them at least). Portable handheld gaming will always exist as long as there are people who prefer quality games.

 

I Sure hope the vita picks up some wind it needs it bad. Reason i only want a Vita is for Persona 4 Golden right now. Give me another killer RPG or something and ill pick it up.

The 3ds was in this same situation when it first came out, Was really slow at first, then suddenly took like crazy.


But WiiU defiantly going to need some killer games soon. Mine has pretty much became a netflix machine right now.

 

I don't really get why everyone always says mobile games are bad whenever someone points out how huge the market is. What's that got to do with anything? Even shitty games can still sell like crazy, just look at Angry Birds or Mario Kart Wii.

I think he mean't those MS-Dos bundle type games that comes like 20 in one disc or freeware games that out back in the day as well

 

yes those games that were shat out on MS Dos and never any good but sold like crazy anyway.

Cell Phone games are the modern equelevent.

I'm sure you and the 5 people that own a Wii U will enjoy Wonderful 101. Looks like a spiritual successor to Viewtiful Joe. But I have no clue what kind of game it is.
