I got it to work now kinda but it just detects everything as an audio CD. I guess my Saturn will never work with a modchip.

Did you not read my last post? It boots up now but it will only read it as an audio CD.

Nope. It works fine without the modchip though.

EDIT: I'd be up for a trade for a White Saturn that works with modchips. So you guys can tinker with it. Also, the saturn can't be piss yellow either mine is pretty white.

Sounds good to me. If I recall this is the only one you don't have right?

I'd like it, but I do not have a white saturn to trade. I could probably send yof a motherboard and cd drive to swap over though.

Failing that, let druid have it - at least we can do some tests on it

I'd rather just have a whole White Japanese saturn. I'm not too fond of frankenconsoles.

The motherboards are the same, regardless of case colour. But in that case best to go with druid

Yes. Two weeks is what I'm expecting the average international transit time to be. I'm a bit slow replying to PMs right now as I've got two friends visiting from out of town one of which I've only seen twice in the last 7 months. I'm also making just weekly trips to the post office to save on time and gas.

I got my modchip couple days ago, but didn't have time to install until tonight. I have Japanese white HST-3220 Saturn.

The only guide I could find for installing a modchip on Saturn is at SegaStyle.com. By looking at the guide there, I have model 2 with 64 pin IC. So I use their V3 Universal modchip guide, I bridge the 0014 and middle point together. Unplug the 21pin ribbon cable on the Saturn and plug that same ribbon cable into MB21 on the modchip. Plug the new ribbon cable from modchip's CD21 to CD board. Solder a wire from one of the 5v solder point to the 5v source on the Saturn's power supply.

Powering on the Saturn and it detect both Japan and US games as audio CD. Following Druid II's earlier message, I turn the both ribbon cables over, so the connecting pins are facing up when connect to both connections on the modchip. The modchip board is now upside down compare to before.

Now the Saturn act likes normal Saturn. As it will boot Japanese games, but not US games. I don't CD-R game to test yet.

So did I do anything wrong or miss something? Anyway, it getting late here. I will try to test a Japanese CD-R game in the morning and see what happen. I also will try to find some of my old HK silver CDs and see if they will work.

Oh I didn't know that the modchip didn't make the Saturn region free. But that's no big deal for me, as I have region switch modded Saturn in storage. I just wanted to try installing the modchip in an unmolested Saturn. Anyway, I have couple more Japanese Saturns in storage and I will test out the modchip on those too. I will have to region modded those Saturn sometime in the future, so is there anyone selling region free bios at this time?

    Thanks...

Most action replay make the saturn region-free, and you can patch each game prior to burning so it boots on another region console without an AR.

That's what I used to do, but now every Saturn I get my grubby hands on gets a RF BIOS.

I like the fact that the 4-in-1 AR allows to archive saves and can be used as a ramcart too. Having it allows to play almost any games and makes a RF bios redundant.
