On the power note, I'm curious if a Y-splitter (1-in, 2-out) would be safe with 2 daisy-chained switches (ie. http://www.ebay.com/itm/141792847210). The idea being to streamline a bit by running both switches from a single "brick". Just wondering...

That's what I use myself. One unit power consumption is under 100mA, for the safe measure we multiply that by two (200mA). As long as the power supply is 500mA or better it'll work just fine.

So that splitter would work with a Genesis model 1 AC adapter (mk 1602) right?

Based on the published requirements (standard 2.1 DC jack, 7-12V, center is negative) the Genesis model 1 (1602) PSU should be a great match. More than enough current supply (1.2 amps) and the 9-10v (one revision is 9v) sits right in the middle of the acceptable range.

Shifting gears slightly, what kinds of surge protectors are people using that can accommodate 8 consoles' worth of wall warts? I'm using two and they're definitely a tight fit.

I would not recommend anything universal.
I use PS2 power supply which is 8.5V 5A, self made EIAJ-DC2.1 jack and 1 to 10 DC splitter, all retro stuff (NES SNES SMD JAG SMS etc) and switch is powered using this one brick.

I'm using extensions like these Power Strip Liberators. Mine are specifically labeled: JING QI YF-3Z, which I've found to be among the better quality offerings. In my case they're going into the back of rack-mount power switches (Eliminator E-107) on a shelf, so I have them looped like the top picture and cable tied to reduce the length (so they only extend 4-6" out the back of the switch).

Just an FYI: There are only a few pre-order slots left and we'll probably be out by the weekend.

Thanks to everyone who's ordered so far...the faster we sell through the pre-order, the faster everyone gets their switches.

Can someone recommend a power supply for the SWITCH that is from any of the highly recommended suppliers in the retro market?

I use the following two open frame power supplies for all my retro consoles:
    12v and 5v comes from: http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=RD-125Avirtualkey63430000virtualkey709-RD125A
    9v comes from: http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?R=NES-150-9virtualkey63430000virtualkey709-NES150-9

I made cables for each console with spade terminals that are wired into a terminal block. I have the PSUs and the terminal blocks mounted to the back of my TV stand / system cabinet. These two PSUs can handle all of my gear -- provided I don't turn it all on at the same time...but then again, who plays five+ consoles all at the same time?

When my switch comes, I'll just terminate a cable for it and screw it on to the 9v supply block.

I use something similar to this. http://smile.amazon.com/Opentron-OT...d=1454038171&sr=8-1&keywords=power+strip+4+ft

I found two pair at a flea market that were meant for installation in garages, which were 220v. Bought an adapter and I was good to go :).

Okay, pre-orders are closed! I'll email everyone when they are ready to ship.

Glad to see so many people are still interested, hope all goes well.
Also, one step closer to those JP 21 switches :D

    I'm guessing more than enough.

    I'm using the following
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812119565
I did however rewire one of the sides to change the direction that the ac power blocks were going to. Fits my systems and XRGB just fine.
