The Top Gear guys, IMHO, are getting more and more obnoxious as the seasons go on. I still enjoy watching it, but what used to be unique and funny is now tired and predictable most of the time. I don't find their personalities likable now, except maybe James May. But now he is a seasoned member, he comes across as being too smug.
No, I don't watch it for the script, but what I also don't do is expect to have my intelligence belittled either. If you want to play silly games or drive round a track like a mad bastard that's all well and good, just at least have the decency to be upfront and honest about it. As for saying it's a show about cars you're waaaaaay off, it's not been about cars for years. It's just about three posturing dullards ego-wanking each other whilst grinning like chimps at the camera.
This is it effectively. I don't watch top gear for the cars because it's mainly new cars they test drive and I hate new cars (apart from the newer ford fiesta's I think their very sexy). From day one I knew the presenters were much more entertaining than the cars they test drive (apart from the challenges with old slightly more expensive than usual beaters). You have the stuck up ego'd presenter, the typical british car enthusiast and the bufoon. It makes for entertaining tv.
It was quite hurtful, it really didn't seem like they were just kidding. It was really not cool, and, well, they did have a good following in Mexico. They just went to town with their comments. If I wanted anti-mexican racism in my TV, I'd watch Lou Dobbs. Is he still alive, even? Still, I hadn't heard about the apology. I imagine they apologised through their teeth, though. I do recall having fun with their show, and, well, I don't really know shit about cars.
