I still can't believe you thought you'd fit it in a MegaCD  Wild Ambition is an awesome game, my second fave after Buriki One. You'll enjoy it!

£20 is a killer price too, I just sold a complete (4 games) boxed fighter set for £300 ;-)

If you TV has an manual RGB select then it will work else you'll get nothing or a ghostly outline of the game...

I would recommend that you use a multimeter to check everything is okay before you plug it in, use the resistance part of the meter to check that all the grounds and voltages are connected correctly and there are no shorts. Use it also to check video and sound too. Then power it up with no load and just make sure you are reading some voltages over the wires (without load the voltage will seem a bit higher then it should be). Make sure you connect all the grounds as this is normally the first thing that causes problems.

That's a really good price seeing as you could pick up four motherboards and four fighting games for £80.

    BANG!

Power supply just exploded and took out the house electrics.

Wasn't even connected to the harness when I tried it.

I think i'm gonna give up, I'm pretty sure my harness is ok but I'm gonna have to make another one if I want to make a permanent set up and after everything that's gone wrong I think it isn't going to happen.

Ebay and Vogatek here I come.

Shit! I had a Naomi power supply that each time I powered down the wife would shout through from the house 'THAT BLOODY FUSE HAS TRIPPED AGAIN!' and I'd wander in to find the kids and wife sitting in total darkness with nowt running.

Subsequently I always use a cut-off plug, the kind of thing that trips if something goes 'phut!'

Too late in this instance, but for future reference!

There is a guy called Gianni on Otaku Arcade who is selling off a few Vogatek superguns at the moment, so rather than wait until July 2015 for any eBay ones to arrive, sign up and nab one off him!

He's a decent bloke and local to me!

    Condolences mate...

EDIT ** I have PM'd him in advance for you, as I think he was off loading one with a suitable PSU - I'll let you know what he says.

    Already a member ;) I'll take a look now.

I really can't believe how much bad luck I've had with this. Thing went off like a firework I still can't hear properly and my room is full of smoke, I'm pleased I disconnected it from the harness otherwise the board might have been cooked.

I now have visions of a charcoal, ashen face with spikey hair strands gently smoking lol

Suffice to say you nabbed that PSU from a PC that came from "The Ark". Luckily it wasn't a £25 job from Maplins. Imagine having to explain this molten lump at the cash desk tomorrow morning.

"I'd like to complain about this dead PSU..." - "Dead Sir? It's only sleeping"

    Queue Monty Python sketch!

I've PM'd that guy asking if he can put one on hold for me. My cash has pretty much ran out this month but I do have some funds dropping through ebay that should be enough to cover it.

Well, given that it's not far from me, I know Gianni really well and it's not the most expensive item on the planet, I am sure I could pick it up for you - I know you are in a bit of a rush to see this thing up and running.

"This PSU is no more! It has ceased to be! It has expired and gone to meet its maker!"

Damn, that's some bad luck you've got there! Unfortunately, that's common with PSUs of that age. You really have to test them first - good job you did!

Well, you'll have to get a PSU to go with the Vogatek, of course! Hopefully you get a goodun this time ;-)

Oh yeah, if you don't wire up the resistor to that pin, you're relying on your TV knowing that you're outputting RGB. If it tries to get a composite signal, it'll ignore the RGB lines and you won't get anything!

I've only seen PSUs blow up when they have been preset to 100/120V and someone plugs them into a 240V supply. They do make a nice loud bang and it does produce lots of smoke.

RULE NO.1 - Make sure and then double and tripple check that everything is wired and set correcetly before you plug anything in.

RULE NO. 2 - Make sure you follow rule no. 1.

Yeah I just did a bit of reading on that resistor. Had the supply actually kicked in and worked I would have been stuck with no picture anyway thinking something else was wrong. Out of interest do these PCB's make any noise at all (such as a light humming) so we know that they're running?

I'm just gonna go with the Vogatek that's listed on Otaku Arcade and be done , I know my way around everything enough now to be able to wire up the fourth button and the guy is selling it with the PSU so that's another thing less to worry about. Also I don't have the space or resources to cater for a full hardcore set up just yet, and it looks like I'll be heading back to korea (via canada) in a months time so the PCB may have to go back to eBay land anyway.

@Parris - Might take you up on the offer. See how tomorrow fares as I don't mind waiting a day or two for it to arrive, got Twilight Princess turning up tomorrow to fill in the days. I'll let you know.

Was a standard 3 pin plug into the back, properly fused and earthed (thank god). Red slider switch was set to 240V.

Plugged it in, flicked the power...fan started up and ran for a few seconds then stopped dead. Switched it off and then on again...bang, flames, smoke, dogs barking, mother shouting, GF wondering why I'd disappeared from Skype etc.

The only thing I did to it was open it and clean the dust out. The wires heading to the strip board were in a molex connector so there was very little chance of a short and if there were surely it would have happened on the first go.

Whatever it was I can gaurantee it was my fault...my projects never ever work.

I've seen a lot of PSUs blow. It happens. And not due to the switch being incorrectly positioned, either!

Actually, the major thing seems to be dust-related, oddly enough. I was at a friend's house in the US. Their PC was acting odd (kept freezing) so we stripped it to take a look. There was a lot of dust, so we blew it out with a compressor. We blew the PSU, too - a crap load of dust came out. Plugged it back in and BANG! Oops!

No, the board won't make any noise - nothing to make a noise. Unless the game boardset has a fan. Did a SNES make a noise? ;-) hehe

    Too true!

I guess it's OK to run it without an isolation transformer, as you won't be using a monitor. Or am I wrong?

You can use it without an isolation transformer - the only thing to watch is to ground the whole circuit if possible. My old TV was ungrounded (2-wire plug) and I built my Supergun around an AT PSU with a metal, grounded case. One hand on the SCART cable shield and one hand on the metal gave me a painful buzz - 0V (shield) on the SCART socket was connected to the neutral line of the mains supply! Nasty.

HNG64s make no noise when powered up, they just sit there. Don't even remember if they have an LED...

    Good luck, anyway :D

How's this going? Any advance on it - i.e. Gianni for example.

He's got the parts on hold for me. I'm just waiting for some more paypal money to come through. A while ago I refunded a guy from spain after he bought some games from me and they never arrived. Now he's been making an issue of intentionally buying everything I try to list and then leaving more bad feedback along with threatening emails asking me to send me his games (which dissapeared in the mail so I'm the one out of pocket).

Anyway point of me telling you this is that now ebay have limited my paypal account to only release funds upon receipt of good feedback which is a mess. I've told ebay about the guy and they have said that I should block him from buying by setting up my buyer preferences...which isn't possible as he's got a perfect record of feedback so I'm stuck with the f*cker.

This process would have gone a lot quicker had this guy not bothered me, I'm completely broke but I have enough games etc lying around the house to cover the costs of this project. It's generally what I do, buy something use it and then sell before the value drops. Works out ok most of the time but it means I always have my expendable cash tied up in assets...as a result I've had about 6 PSP's and just as many iPods all because I juggle products depending on what I want to use at any time.

Life story aside as soon as my earnings are clear I'll pay. £25 for the board,PSU and postage is really good, infact I don't know how he's making any money.
