i think, there is command to get info about what in current folder (name), then it reads ip.bin to get picture (if it exist). then it sends cmd to change image to next or error it was last.
anyway, i just asked if it's open information. just to try on my device:). if it's not, no problem. DreamShell is not bad too.

Only thing is the soft reset, but that won't load back into the GDMenu. (Takes you as far back as the bios menu)
    (A)+(B)+(X)+(Y)+Start

you could mod the eject button to act like a reset button.

Update: I done the reset mod for mine using the UGC & it doesn't work as I would have thought, for the UGC device you need to power cycle the device for it to revert to disc 1 (internal menu) so to do that we will need to disconnect the power from the DC instead of IC 206. (Simple to do aswell)

Lots of responses and excitement to that Stone Age Gamer Facebook post.

Sort of full circle for this thread, yah? - - "Let's make GD ROM emulation happen" Facebook group" ;)

I'd like to hear some updates from MNEMO, too.

    - - particularly the status on CDI support!

I have a few CDI items that it'd be great to open with the USB GD-ROM. (Half-Life, first and foremost, and then some fun utilities, scene releases, and other things). I've never had great success converting CDI to ISO, so I don't want to go that route.

Also, I wonder what the progress is on the last lingering half-dozen incompatible titles.

Disc swap for D2 will likely never be possible, given the nature of the device, but an update on that would be excellent, too.

A classy menu would be nice, as well, but honestly, as much as I really like GDMENU, it's not a must-have for the device.

All in all, I am really enjoying this new era of Dreamcast. SO easy, and fun! No more stacks of CDs . . . !

NO posts in 4 days huh? Guess the novelty of the Dreamcast wore off already?

    Less talking means more playing.

I meant - we all got our boards from denuan and MNEMO and we all discussed all the issues and possiblities and such and now that all of us played with them for a month or so, things got quiet.
it's like were all children and got bored of our new toys..

I need RHEA NOW please... or PSISO...

MNEMO has gone silent, so as of now I haven't anything new to talk about, well bar, I got a v5 GDEMU board today.

i haven't a clue what MNEMO is up to if he's still supporting the UGC. (I hope he is becuase if it weren't for people on here supplying a newer firmware I would still have issues with certain games)

i do come on here every day all through the day lol

I kinda lost the buzz after modding the DC, no news doesn't help either.
I am looking forward to CDI support from MNEMO , atm he is building devices (I imagine for SaG) , I caught him on icq a week ago or so and he told me that.
tbh I am working on my amiga600 setup, it is proven a good time waster with old games LOL

True story - - I've been busy having a ton of fun installing and checking out the devices side by side !

(from left to right, Dreamshell/BIOS mod console, USB-GDROM console, and a GDEMU console also with a BIOS mod for region-free play)

Not much more to talk about until the next revision of GDMenu, or if MNEMO releases new firmware (scrolling names on selection for the long titles that go off the screen would be nice. I have a few small suggestions I will provide to him, but I'm sure they are ones he knows already !).

The Amiga 600 looks like fun, keropi!

Well, I've been playing quite a bit with my GDemu DC + gdmenu 0.3 and I couldn't be happier. It's so much more enjoyable to boot up your dc and play anything you want straight away. I can't recommend this enough, it's like the Dreamcast just came to life in a next gen way. Also, the compatibility is PERFECT. I mean, I haven't found any issues with any game until now. Loadings are faster than gd-rom drive, which is always a plus.

Only downside I can see is the DC gets a little hotter then usual. Another feature I would like to see, but I don't think it will be implemented would be: reset, go back to bios screen and then boot gdmenu, instead of the current game I was previously playing.

Not possible at a software level, you could how ever install a reset button or mod your open button to act like a reset button. (Just break the power line when pressed, basically a second power switch)

The IC206 route doesn't work, it resets the DC, but due to how GDEMU & UGC work, they need to lose power to reset the image. So if you reset the DC & don't cut the power to the GDEMU/UGC, it loaded the previous image again.

    I tried the IC206 :-(

I've been working on various other projects and haven't even touched my board recently. However, I think the current ones available are very good and my device would be unnecessary at this point anyway. I'll probably pick it up again at some point in the future when I'm looking for an impossible challenge. ;)

I am working on a Dreamcast-related project, though. I've been working on a suite of wireless console controllers and I'm going to do Dreamcast at some point. Once I finish that I'll stick up a post so you guys can have a look.

I'm almost sure that gdemu could notice that the last disc booted was not the first, then switch back to the first one on the next reboot, but allow to boot another disc if the last one booted was the first one. Though it'd require a firmware update and then gdmenu would be mandatory.

    Interesting project Mario!

I tried ordering the USB adapter, but it sounds like he's having people from US order from SAG next year. The wait will kill me!

I'm just glad someone's bringing it to market in a sensible way... I'll certainly be in line to grab one from SAG when they're ready for sale, it finally brings some kind of resolution to these projects that we've all been reading about over the year.

Great news, and a little wait won't hurt.

I can't recommend enough a GD-EMU rather than the USB thingy, since GD-EMU is 100% working while USB isn't and customer don't even know when and if there will be a fix.

I'm of the other mind, personally.

I have spent considerable time with both units now, and have decided to keep the USB-GDROM and not the GDEMU.

Partially, it's simplicity - - I really enjoy having my collection on one large USB drive. The load times with the USB-GDROM are very fast, too. I like GDMenu, but watching that "Loading..." screen each time I boot takes up some time. The USB-GDROM is instant on, and I can browse titles right away.

Regarding compatibility for the USB-GDROM, I have tested all the titles that were previously listed as incompatible, and they now play perfectly.

I can't seem to find any other problematic titles, actually!

Rocky, and others - - are there any other titles that still don't work?? I am about to start running down the entire TOSEC list myself and see, but it's feeling very compatible at this point.

I dunno, just my personal preference, but it might be helpful for some.

What 'loading' screen are you referring to exactly? I have the GDemu and have never seen a loading screen?
