If you run the GDMenu without generating a list.ini file and injecting it into the GDMenu CDI image - then you get a loading screen while it scans all the folders, however masdsheep's GDEMU_SD program can generate the list and inject it for you so there is a simple solution :)

Whichever device people choose to keep I think will be down to personal choice as always.
Both current devices are awesome and currently each device can offer something that the other device cannot - but all developers of finished and on going solutions should be congratulated for their efforts and for giving the beloved Dreamcast a new lease of life :)

Can I get an example list.ini file please? I'm on linux so madsheep's program doesn't work for me but I'd like to speed up the booting process! I could probably re-implement it in python and release the code, when I have free time.

    Thanks!

All I know is I got my GDemu in early July and have never messed with it, other than putting games on it and it runs like a dream!

Loading times are literally non existent in a lot of games and drastically improved in most others. :)

Ah, cheers, makes sense. As I move fast to review and test things, I have just been dragging and dropping and then slotting the SD card back in. It was quicker than faffing about with some additional software.

Now that my list for the GDEMU SD card I'm using is more finalized, though, I can fire up madsheep's excellent program and get that sorted.

Yes, personal choice and intended use - - always an important deciding factor! I like one-and-done. A single 2TB USB drive, and I'm complete.

Availability might become deciding factor issue too, though. It appears that GDEMU is likely to see maybe one more run here around Christmas, and then things are undecided. USB-GDROM is going into mass production, however...!

Do you guys think mass production means cheaper?

I still need to grab one of these and the 3D0 one.

Given stone age gamers track record of price gouging I think it will cost more.

Yep. I like what they do, but I really would have rather ordered from Mnemo for that reason.

I trust gdemu because afaik it has never had any compatibility issues. I've also tried trial discs and prototype gd releases with no issues.
I believe this device is very reliable and future proof in case new releases of obscure games come out as it seems to perfectly replicate gd-rom drive, so no need for the developer to update the firmware for said game. I rather sacrifice space for compatibility. Just my opinion.

Out of all the PAL/US games, only about 5 have issues as of today. (It was more originally)

I don't have any JAP games so can't test them.

So in my opinion UGC over GDEMU any day. I would have to buy 9, 32GB SD cards to fit all the games that fit on one 500GB HDD.

I bought a GDEMU for CDI support & also I like to collect stuff I will never use :-/ (bad habit)

Had a small conversation with MNEMO yesterday, he is still assembling units - all his time is spent on hardware atm ... can't wait for him to spend some software time though :D

SD card type, brand, and size would be helpful to know.

Using GDMenu? Using madsheep's menu generator, too?

    NTSC console or other?

I'll give this a go on my GDEMU this evening and see if I get the same issue. Hadn't tried that one yet. Interesting that it did work and now doesn't...

Have your tried placing a fresh version of either image on a fresh SD card?

I've just tried these GDI's from the trurip set:

    • Tomb Raider - La Revelation Finale (FR) (2000) [T-36804D-09] [503-2921-01000-9]
    • Tomb Raider - The Last Revelation (GB) (2000) [T-36804D-05] [503-2921-00999-7]
    • Tomb Raider - The Last Revelation (US) (Eidos Interactive) (2000) [T-36806N]
    • Tomb Raider Chronicles (GB) (2000) [T-36815D-05] [503-2921-01301-7]
    • Tomb Raider Chronicles (US) (Eidos Interactive) (2000) [T-36812N]

All of them play fine, my GDemu is on firmware 5.7.0. My dreamcast is VGA modded though (so only tried through VGA) and also because it has a multi region bios, the GDI's were copied over unpatched
