Here is what happens when I use the inatech enclosure, HDD formatted to Fat32 65k cluster size, its a 1tb drive. (same HDD different enclosure no such issues)

I put a dummy collection on the new Seagate drive & it doesn't do the above, but they're all empty folders.

Ok, left my batch files to transfer all the games back onto the new Seagate 500GB HDD & they all work, well I dont get the above. So will test this drive out for a few days see how it goes.

How does one go about identifying if a rip has come from the Dumpcast/TOSEC GD-ROM set?

I see. Thanks for your info. But a "Menu Overlay" and up/down selection via your controller is still a better solution to select or swap game images, IMO.

Hello I just received my GDEMU today. I am having no luck making it work, I am sure I am doing something wrong. I have two VA1 Dreamcasts on the I have replaced the bios chip for region free and a stock one. I have tried 8 different SD cards formatted using SDFormatter with "01" "02" type folders and images named disk.gdi track01.bin track02.raw track03.bin. Is there anything any of you can think of I may be missing. Or has anyone experienced any problem like this with theirs?

Edit disk.gdi with notepad and change the track names or use this program to make it automatically http://xxx.biskoto.gr/GDEMU_SD.rar

Probably a silly question but why there are bin+raw files along with the GDI? isn't having the GDI file enough? Does it also need extracting or something?
Also does a game like Gunlord runs on the USB-GDROM?

Unfortunately, there's no easy way to tell... its tracks will be in bin/raw format though, that's one indicator. You could also check the files checksums against the checksums that we publish (you can get 'em from Dumpcast or TOSEC sites)

The .GDI file is just a text file that describes the layout of the accompanying bin/raw files. It's like a cuesheet file.

Needs to be named disc.gdi - not disk.gdi, also make sure that the SD card is not locked (sliding tab should be in the up position) as that is how you upgrade firmware

thanks darcagn , I was under the impression that .gdi files were something like an .iso, a big file with the data

another question: what is the best way to prepare a HDD for the USB-GDROM device?
Extract/sort GDIs , but do they need a pass through the optimization utility?

Depending on the size of the HDD, format it to FAT32 cluster size:
0-250GB = 16
250-500GB = 32
500-2TB = 64

Using windows CMD
format /fs:fat32 F: /Q /X /A:64k
(or 16k - 32k)

F would be your HDD letter, make sure it's the right one.

Or download this program & format the drive, also make sure the partition is set to primary or UGC will give an error about no Fat32 file system found.

MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition

As for optimizing the GDI files, it's not needed unless your tight on space.

Decided to pull the trigger and just made the payment to Mnemo via Western Union.

Easy process, as I already had a WU account. He sent all the needed details for transfer, and successfully received the confirmation email.

It will take a few days for transfer to complete, and he will ship next week. Friendly fellow, smooth transaction so far.

Very exciting, interested to try this out and compare it to my GDEMU ! May the best device win . . . and be kept. I probably don't need two devices in my life, so I will have to make a choice!

Aye, that's the way of it, thanks keropi. ICQ and WU only.

He mentioned to me that he had 3 pieces ready to ship, and materials to assemble "about 15 pcs."

What that means for the long run, I don't know. I'd imagine he will keep manufacturing batches, but who knows.

Always good to jump on these things quickly (as soon as they are proven to work, that is), as sometimes they turn into limited editions!

I'll post and add to the chatter once mine arrives and I can test.

. . .

It still is very funny to me that we are on page 80 of a two-year old post about a Facebook group, talking about devices that we never even could dream of. I'd suggest a new thread, but honestly, I like the chaos and history of this one. :)

I hope he is interested to get them mass produced after he is confident it supports all disc formats and the bugs are eradicated.

I plan to mod one of these and put a zip drive in the place of the original knobs and such. I would also make a USB port on mine so I can add a splitter to add the games on it. 2TB portible drive and VGA box and I am pretty much done with it save for a reset button I would like to put on the controller.

Similar to what Spinksy made a few years back.
