Thanks Madsheep! The ini file does clear up the issue I had with a few images showing blanks. I had tried to do this myself with bootdreams, but it didnt work for some reason.

If you take requests, would it be possible to add an option to edit an existing menu? I screwed up a couple of times and had to completely start from scratch each time. Also might be easier if only adding one or two more images to the card to not have to completely redo the custom ini setup.

 

Like many others I'd still like to see a simple 'easy to buy' solution for the Dreamcast!

Did anyone tried region patching the Skies of Arcadia US? I tried FREE and PAL patching for my PAL DC and it doesn't work, I must use gameshark for booting this game.

 

Not all games react well to region patching, which is why Deunan didn't include it.

 

That can't be it, the region checking mechanism takes place in the BIOS before the game is even booted. Changing the region flag to JUE does not affect any games whatsoever... it would never make a game that normally works not work, the worst case is that a game would have an additional region check and just still not work. If this were the case then games would have compatibility problems with the Dreamcast 4-wire modchip.

i.m working on g1ata-adv when i have spare time)) it works, not 100% stable, but it's not bad for cheap device))
at least it can be used for as adaptor to connect G1 bus with HDD(or ide-cf, ide sata) and Launch SWAT's DreamShell.
but also it works as gd-emu, i need just add some features like CDDA.

just curious, is any sources of menu for GD-EMU (duenan), just too see how it works between device and DC ?

I guess a region-free bios would fix most people's problems with gd-emu then! He could still make it an optional feature on his menu once it's done.

Well, it's more than a guess (I have one and it works perfectly), and AFAIK, an optional region hack and VGA patch are planned on the official menu.

 

Anyone been able to test Strumwind? I have made a working CDI but not sure how the ODE will handle the bad sector protection.

And if El Dorado Gates can be patched that would be amazing. I know a guy that is translating part 1 as we speak but doesn't want to try parts 4 and up due to the protection checks due to the regions.

 

Is there a downside to using CDIs vs GDIs? I have shitloads of CDIs stored but no GDIs, and my GDEMU is right around the corner.

 

No but the gdi is a complete image the cdi may have down sampled sounds and videos except of than nothing i think

Thanks for the update! I've been following SWAT's work over the years with DreamShell and your work here. We just need a good device that works (usually helps!), can be easily updated, and supports all formats from a USB hard drive. I know it's a stupid question but do you have a rough idea of when it might be ready to go on sale?

Well I stand corrected on that title as I didn't realize it went back and checked the JUE flags (I thought it checked the console's region flash). But wouldn't this easily be defeated by only patching the sector containing the "JUE" flag once upon a reset instead of with every read of that sector?

Not that it matters much to me, I have a bunch of blank flash chips laying around so I'll just replace the BIOS in whatever Dreamcast I choose to install my GDEmu in when it arrives

 

Regarding Mnemo's board.. I noticed this on his page "Hidden page untill start mass production. Please don't share until start mass production."

Bit naughty of RetroCollect to break the story like that. Does this mean he's going to ramp up production? I don't want to bother the guy on ICQ if these are going to be readily available soon, I can wait.

 

Not sure if anyone really knows. He doesn't like to give out much information publicly it seems. He will need to figure out some other method of payment besides Western Union if he does.
