looking for Retron 5 hack to play Roms

Didn't say I made it. I only made the IPS patcher stuff and I'm working on a CFW since it's rooted. I've got emulators running and what not. o and btw Android studio can be used to send/test programs out (with ADB) lol.

If your impatient and are tech savy then, root your retron as per video(credits to the guy who made it) and then install Android SDK.

How to run apps/emulators etc on your Rooted Retron 5:
1. Connect your retron to pc.

2. Open a cmd prompt and type:
'adb install yourApkName.apk'

3. That installs your app and then:
'adb shell am start -n com.whatever.appname/.MainActivity

Note: MainActivity should be replaced with the correct activity found in AdroidManifest.xml
com.whatever can be found in the /data/data/ driectory after instal, its the package name.

O and as for "Attack vectors", all you gotta do is dump the 'update.img' file, modify the FS for root, pack it, and then intsall. Voila!
Which is how the CFW will work, so basically the video is everything you'll have to do in the end but you will use my modified update.img file.

 

So basically getting to the RetroN 5 recovery screen & loading your cfw is all we will need to do, Without having to use a pc with android sdk?

I have have downloaded it three times now and everytime I choose a folder to convert I have to keep pressing enter then it cycles in the folder and keeps re-doing the same files.

Got mine in tonight. I loaded Rampage NES but the game menu does not have a option for a patch. What's the deal with that? Little help?

 

redjohhny, make sure your software is up to date, version 2.2. Patch option is under the Game Menu, Game Specific Settings.

 

Just updated and found it. When I load the patch it does not work. I converted to IPS files. Do the names matter? File path matter? All it does is try to start the game again (not the system). Sometimes it still brings up the original game.

OMG, I am a idiot. I forgot I did not unzip my files. HA!

 

Is there a way of doing this on a mac?

 

belcherboy have you tried this app under wine?
Failing that there are ips patchers for mac you might be good using an applescript with one of those mate.

Does anyone have the working V2 of GBrown5's application? (ie one that doesn't require clicking OK to create every IPS)

I am currently testing RetroNLabos hack and just now finished writing a english translation of his japanese readme-file to the best of my ability.
I am hoping he will be able to release the hack to the public soon, but I have no knowledge or info regarding this what so ever.
The process of creating the hack does not seem easy and I'm guessing it is pretty time consuming, as each file update file (the hack) has to be unique because every console has a unique ID.

 

The latest RetroN 5 includes a 3gb hard drive & controller port dust covers, system itself seems the same. hopefully hack will work with newer R5's

 

My Retron 5 has dust covers on the controller ports, so I'm guessing mine is the latest revision. If so, then the hack works on newer RetroN 5's

 

Have anymore filters been added at all?

 

my retron 5 i got off ebay has dust covers and 3gb harddrive also..i didnt realize that they are older and newer model retron 5s..my retron 5 slots dont seem too tight either...any other way to tell if its newer model or not???

 

Not that I am aware of and there is no mentioning of any new filters in the readme-file.

 

Older R5's have 1gb storage, newer 3gb of storage
