Are we still locked to using a cart from the system we want to play the roms from, ie SNES cart cant be used to play Megadrive roms?

So i can had a MegaDrive cart in the Retron 5 and still load SNES roms to play?

    Also whats the flips.exe for?

I was under the impression we just load Bin2Retron5.exe point it to the folder with your roms in, click convert and the copy over the ips files to the Retro5 SD card?

EDIT: Also noticed this version is asking for confirmation on creating each ips file for every from, so can be a really pain if you have 30 roms in your folder as you have to confirm each file to be converted

EDIT2: I dont seem to be able to get any GBA roms to load, i have Mario Kart Super Circuit in the GBA slot but no GBA roms work just get a black screen!. NES, SNES, MegaDrive and Master Syetm games all work however

No you need a snes cart to load snes ips (roms) etc.
Flips.exe is the ips patcher that creates the .ips files from your rom source files.

Mine do, but I didn't use this utility to create them, I used my own batch file that I posted a few pages back.

Dumb question and I am a noob to the topic. First the background, just ordered the retron5 and a everdrive N8. Yup, I now know they wont work together. My question: is there a step by step direction for a idiot like myself to play roms without screwing everything up? Seems like I will first have to obtain a NES game. Then convert the roms to IPS using gbrown5's APP to a SD card. Insert SD card into the retron5 then (I guess) run the physical NES game and apply a patch using the retron5 in game menu (the patch being the IPS that is a converted ROM). So far that's what I am gathering.

I been testing on 2.2, so far everything seems to work for my NES and Super NES roms using gbrown5' program. I'll be testing Genesis and GBA / GBA next week when I get some physical cartridges to use. Every SNES game patch tested great. Only hiccup I came across was for playing the first NES Megaman game, which the music ran slower than it should.

Working great on 2.2 Good work! Tested it with both Sega Genesis and SNES. What's the best way to keep save states from getting erased while using this method? or is there a way?

Redownload the application, I noticed this bug quickly after posting and fixed it. As for GBA games, I have no issues...perhaps give me rom names so I can try and figure out what's happening. Also NO as of now you Must own an original cart to each each system the game itself doesnt matter.

In order to do advanced edits like loading roms and what not. You'll need to root.

I just got it rooted last night so give me a few days and we should have emulators and what not running on it!

Best approach is probably enabling the "separate saves" option when loading the patch.

Also just to give my personal experience gbrown5, SNES games have worked great since v2 of the patching program although I find there's better compatibility when using a cartridge that's rather small in rom size. Ex. Using a 48mbit cartridge like Star Ocean results in a lot of patches not loading, especially if their rom sizes are much smaller. Where as using a cartridge like Super Mario World (512 kilobytes) seems to have near 100% compatibility...or at least 100% of the stuff i've tried. Although that said there are some patches where the rom it's loading is much smaller than something like Star Ocean and it works fine. So i don't know if this is definable proof that loading patches for small roms vs. a larger rom having cartridge is a problem...but it might be worth looking into.

if you are going to repost the file that was the end result of a couple months of hard work looking at different attack vectors for the system a link or credit is always nice :)

Hi guys great work , I would love to try this too , I am a complete beginner on things like this . Is there just 1 single download I can get to get it all onto an sd card and extract it ready to use.
I only got the retron yesterday and apart from installing the new firmware I haven't played much .

Or if there is no simple way , If someone can help I am happy to pay for it all to be put on an sd cart for me , happy to pay for the card , postage and a little for your help .
    Thanks and happy new year

Hey, all. I've been following this thread for a while. Frustration and impatience have urged me to create an account to get some answers. I'd like to know what is taking so long. Based on my limited knowledge, and I mean no offence, I can not for the life of me figure out what it is that make's this such a difficult challenge. It's an android system and much more difficult systems have been cracked in the past within a much smaller time frame. Am I missing something, because to me it seem's to have already been accomplished but yet to be released. Like I said, I mean no offence, I would just like to know if this is going to happen or not, and If there's anything I can do to help, I would be more than happy to do so. I don't have many talents, such as coding, but I have a knack for description and I know the ins and outs of many older game, such as game mechanics, as well as an eye for detail. If there is anything I can do to hurry along this project or if anyone has any information or leads as to anything I can do to help, let me know.

    Thanks, In Advance.
    Grim
