Manchester Tools Ten You lot know who you all are! This thread is for anyone who got one of the Tools which were recently on Ebay. Im tring to find out as much as I can about them. From the Ebay thread.... Er yeh I do actually want to make it into a Pc But I really need to check any data left on the drives 1st. Poss use one to get a full dev kit set up Does anyone know where they came from?
Okay, did you buy two as a matter of interest as I am sure I saw a posting about 2 units. I could be wrong? So if so is one remaining a Tool and the other a PC? Have you decided to just use the case and nothing else from the Tool? I only ask as if you ARE going to go that route and scrap the parts, farm them out, can I be the first to ask for the IC link cable from main motherboard to the DVDrom please - mine is humped and although it could be repaired, I suspect it will just die on me eventually and I may have to shorten it to get it working again. That would inevitably be more complicated to deal with. As for your PC project, it'll look excellent! What a shame though!!! Oh, of course I would pay for it!!! Not expecting a freebie
Yeh I have 2 units at the mo one will defo be kept as is in storage. (That is if my bro doesn't take one.... which may happen before I get back) I need to check all the hard disks for any data goodies on them.
Well Barc0de hinted that the seller was offering units from the developers of Tomb Raider (Obviously Core) and when I spoke to him he did say all of the units came from the one office. So, possible information of great interest if you are a Lara Croft fan. The potential for them to have left anything of that ilk on the HDD would be virtually zero however. My unit had the 2nd drive removed and the external HDD was hastily removed, to the point that the card was left dangling from the rear card slot. OH: It came from an entirely different source, but it does suggest the kinds of effort the developers go to in order to avoid us getting their work.
You never know you might be lucky. Let us know how you get on. I'm getting my unit back out of the attic (a promise I have been making to myself and others for several weeks) and updating the HDD. Each time I get spare time to do so, something steps in the way and I have to abandon the idea for another night. No rush, but I would love to see that damned thing move on from BIOS checks. UJ did a massive job in getting the forensic images to revive the unit. All I ask of my household is a spare evening. With 3 kids, that rarely happens! I assume you've seen internal images of the unit?
Yeah, Looks good! lol I dont envy you dude must be mental lol. One will be coming home with me so I can study it in detail back in france. Only then can I decide what its fate will be.
Well, if you take the keep it as is route then I wouldn't blame you! It's a nice unit and worth keeping a good one at the very least. You got any other DTL items to go with it? External HDD for instance? If not then you should PM ******* about the external HDD if you wanted one. He might still have some left. UJ and I bought one not so long ago and he had a pile of them. ***** Edited to save the poor guy being bombarded!
Well ****** charged me about £30 for a brand spanking, boxed, complete unit if I recall correctly so you can't argue with that price. Obviously he may have changed his prices, run out! ****** Edited to save the poor guy being bombared!
And if you are feeling like staring at the inards in order to plan your carcass attack: http://s138.photobucket.com/albums/q265/Parris1972/Sony%20PS/Sony%20Playstation%202%20TOOL/
just to let you know, when the TOOL boots, on POST it shows: IDE Master : IBM something IDE Slave: none that said, the TOOLs haven't been opened, since the goldish seal is still intact. PS: Beautiful HDD Parris, very nice price for what it is and it's brand new!
Not even powered them up - spent all today looking at houses (Yawn!). And now prob going to mull them over with a pint of the finest boddington beer the stweard can serve me. So its prob going to be much later tooday if I get chance.
Since I've broken my cover over in the introduce-yerself thread, I guess its a good time to announce my interest in this thread, as 1/10 of the Manchester Tool Ten (as Gleavepaul put it). It'll probably be a while before I receive my own unit, so I've been watching events in this & the original ebay thread with great interest.
Hey Limey, I noticed your posting in the introduce yourself. From what I can gather they are pretty well packaged up from this seller so it should reach the USA without damage - fingers crossed. They are pretty sturdy beasts. Considering the name and considering how you got into the gaming thing with Speccy & Amstrad stuff my bet is you are originally from this side of the pond, am I right? I noticed you were also on the hunt for a PS2 Test. There is a European one up for auction in the USA on eBay (you probably noticed already) but here is the Item number: 270111254578 It's a pretty neat PAL / NTSC (but 220-240v) DTL-H30002s. You are potentially better off with a slimline version so that you have HDD compatibility (if I remember rightly the last series of old style test units also had HDD compatibility if UJ wishes to confirm). A nice leap from the units you currently have up to the Tool.
I can only confirm that the dtl-h30102(the one I jhave) has hdd compatiblity, it works without a glitch either with the browser 2.0 from the ffxi pack or with the japanese bbnav. For the 30002, check those threads from last year: http://assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8939 http://assemblergames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9073 Parris, I must be mistaken, but when I read you it looks like you said that the slimline test ps2 have hdd compatiblity?? Any news with the Tool?
VIA USB no? As with the standard PS2 Slimline? No? If not I stand corrected, but I read a thread about the various version of PS2 test somewhere (not even sure whether in here) and it mentioned the units could cope with external units? It also mentioned that certain earlier (old style) could not cope with HDD unless they had been returned to Sony for a firmware upgrade. Is that nonsense then? As I said, UJ can confirm lol, so I assume that's a NON! Tool still in the attic - we have visitors this weekend out of the blue! I thought it might be a bit rude to just ignore them and get my consoles running lol, although I am really, really, really wanting to go and fetch it.
