Tachikoma, this pic is really awesome. The amount of detail + the colors make it astounding. My only halfassed-halfdecent pic is this one. :/ But it was taken by a 5mp cell phone in portrait mode without zooming.(Unfortunately i don't have a good cam yet..) Could anyone give some tips so i can enhance it and make it look better like your professional shots?
MoBoRoS: There is only so much you can do with a cell phone camera for macro shots, they just aren't designed for it, and even the best of them won't be able to beat even the most basic DSLR's kit lens. As for improving shots, really don't underestimate what resizing can do for an image. Very few people post "good" images at 100%, they are normally resized to 1000pixels at their largest dimension for a reason. Also, make good use of an image editor, I use GIMP, and almost always do some low level wavelet sharpen and/or unsharp mask. Just using the default settings your shot with the above (and resized) comes out like this: Which looks sharper, but shows the blown highlights more, which is something you can't really fix after the image is taken without a lot of effort. Don't be discouraged though, even if you can't afford a "good" camera for now, using your cell phone should give you a better idea of what to do, and if it has manual options, what settings affect what. Will give you a good head start if/when you do buy a camera. For general photography though, search for things like iPhone galleries, and you will be amazed what a talented person can do with something as shyte as the iPhone camera.
Tachikoma: Thank you very very much for the info! I tried the macro shot that was available on my n95 8gb for this image and i think thats the best this mobile can pull off. Your advice and the program you suggested really helped me! ill try and figure some things out on my own and experiment a bit, and once i buy a decent camera i'll get to real action. Thanks again
You are welcome! The important thing is to experiment like you said, try different things and try to learn why what you did gives the result you achieved. I learned more from fiddling with the settings on my camera than from reading websites.
Some slight crops on these ones, but I took them with the 50mm 1.8 lens, which means I was damn close to the squirrel.
Here is an pic of an Amiga 500, i forgot about the whitebalance when i did the photo and altered it afterwards thats why it has a bit weird colours (did not shoot in RAW). Also i have gathered some of my photos here: http://www.ym2149.com/photoweb/
I found this fly on a daisy yesterday: The following are from the same image, just more is cropped away: And talk about being eye-to-eye! Enjoy
Hehe that was taken with a Canon 5D Mark II, Canon MP-E 65mm F/2.8 1x-5x Macro Photo lens and a Canon MR-14EX Ring Light.
Awesome shot Nitro! Got a ringflash coming in the post (hopefully this week) as fed up of trying to take macro shots with my old flashgun, my fly portrait shot as an example: Just doesn't compare to yours...
My very first Photos at a concert! The pictures are taken at night outdoors, with no flash... Sadly the lights were incredibly low and badly placed, so i had no choice but to go and use the new cheap 50mm F1.8 i bough if only they placed the lights properly :banghead: whatever... the group is famous in france and not so much in italy (they sing in both languages) and it's called Naif herin. Feel free to comment as usual!
