My buddy in seattle found this while out game hunting today:

Translucent Orange Halo Special Edition Original Xbox

 

Looks like a aftermarket case :/

 

with the halo markings ?

i wonder why all the stickers have been removed though

 

An employee at the plastics plant making his own and sneaking it out the door, or photoshop? The color is different from the aftermarket orange case I have.

 

He contacted me earlier today - He said it was from an employee, but his wife was selling it at the time, so no questions were answered or asked.

This is very interesting, once new photos arrive, I'll make a quick video about this. I think he should be credited for even taking the efforts to make a video and take photos. I'm glad a nice person got this and not some snob of a private collector who if 5 of these were on the table at $600 they'd buy all of them.

To answer all of you thinking it's aftermarket - It's not. There's microsoft markings inside and out, the stickers are missing because it was never a retail case or meant to be for retail in the first place. So no stickers were ever put on. What strikes me is that there's no serial number sticker or anything of that kind. Simply because it was a test case - this is the first orange XBOX that really has surfaced with proper photos of all angles.

 

Huh. I guess if this one had been released then they would've had a pretty big colour variety in terms of cases.

The orange colour isn't that bad, I'm not a huge fan of orange but it's actually a pretty good shade.

I am kinda interested to hear more about this one as it is a bit odd - Hex, can you send me a message when you do make the video? Fairly curious to hear about it from you. Didn't see all of these other photos or the video earlier, all things considered!

How the hell didn't I see the Facebook page link on the archive?! Smack me upside the head mate, today.... Seriously, I swear it's been one of those days.

Anyway, how now gone and liked the page so I can now see some more interesting stuff like this. I do really quite like the translucent cases. Particularly the shimmery crystal ones and this orange one has a nice and shiny look to it too.

I dunno. Feeling like a bloody magpie going for shiny things. Were there other unused/unreleased translucent cases that you know of?

Should have a black jewel unless it was made when the blue / crystal cases were made. It would be nice to have the husband go into detail about this.

 

I doubt the stickers were ever placed on. I also doubt this is an after market shell, this seems like an early engineering sample. Why the orange, maybe Chief's visor color? I dunno, it is interesting with the crystal version jewel.

 

This is just my hunch, but I think MS was tested orange thinking they would put it in production bc this is now the 3rd console we've seen surface.

The question remains though, if they tested orange so many times, how come we haven't seen "test" blue consoles. Clear and Green I understand because the dev stuff was clear and green, so they likely already had it down. But you would think they would have had to have had a test blue console at some point.

 

Buy a blue Canadian console, take off the stickers, now you have a blue test console!

As simple as it is much easier to identify when it is orange and not a known color. Plus, since it didnt come out it I know if I worked there, I would walk out with orange and not blue. And technically we already have a blue test console. Moontars DOAO.

Wow that is an amazing find!! I wonder if that really was a test sample or if someone who ran the machines that made the cases custom made his own case. So very interesting!! Wish I could find stuff like this D;

I just noticed the three holes in the side of the xbox, anyone know why those would be there?

 

This is the first orange one I have seen with the front panel intact. The other one was a lid only. I really would not mind owning this one! I think the orange is awesome!

Is this the same color as the orange live controller and the orange memory cards? It seems a little more pale.

 

Its hard to say because the pictures arent all taken in the same lighting, plus this has shielding behind it to reflect light.
