I tried the demo and noticed the same thing, the physics were complete crap. And seriously, the homing attack has no place in a 2D platformer. It's almost hilarious how they're trying tack "old school" stuff like the Sega opening and the title screen on a game that seems like another gimmicky Dimps title. Although I'm really tempted to see what the full game is like, since the demo is ridiculously short, even if I know I'm gonna get Dimpsed.
Yesterday I played Sonic 4. The graphic were better than I expected (but still they could do better expecially if you compare it with the fan-made Sonic) and was ok. Not something terrible but we have seen better things (like Sonic Rush). The big disadvantages of this game? Too short, too easy, the music was boring (expecially for a Sonic game which they are usually famous for their great, memorable soundtrack), in lots of points the game made you to slow down and ruining the "run like hell all the time" style and the worst? 15 dollars are too much for a game that you finish on 1-2 hours! And God knows when the second episode will the released. In few words, I will grade it 6/10. I hope we'll see better things on Sonic Color.
I've been playing the PS3 version all afternoon and I've had a lot of fun. Sonic Team really haven't done anything new, and it's certainly not perfect, but it's a very competent enjoyable game. I really don't understand the problem with the homing attack either as it adds to the gameplay. The levels that are different from the iOS version are good, especially the Road of Cards level. The effect of running on the playing cards as they fly around like a magic carpet is pretty cool. And yeah, I finally decided to update the firmware on the PlayStation to 3.50 :crying: :cur_sonic:
I don't share the complaints regarding the homing attack. The game is built around the mechanic nicely and it doesn't feel out of place - actually I like that it highlights stuff you can attack, which gives you a lot of last minute opportunity to make the strike.
Downloaded the Demo on 360...too short... downloaded Wii version played for a bit... will buy 360 Version Asap
I got the 360 version last night and like it more than the iPhone version. True that the screen doesn't rotate when doing a loop but that's actually a bonus point IMO. Also i like the way the 360 version lets you play the game normally, stage after stage and not the stupid select stage option that the iPhone has. Sure, the game does seem a little slugish but over all it's a very good return for sonic. Who gives a shit if his running animation looks wrong?
Played the demo and loved the crisp graphics but the speed was just off. In the older games you could build up so much speed in those loops that you would jet out of them and go so fast the game couldn't keep up. In this the speed dash is just sluggish and not fast at all. You come out of the loops and are barely moving faster then regular run speed. I'm guessing that the game engine and fps would not have been able to keep up if they kept the old physics. This is pure conjecture, but to keep the game at a rock solid framerate and look, they sacrificed the speed, which is a shame.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCtXDkMX9Ss&feature=player_embedded#! Somebody has produced an improved version of the music first level using the same synthesizer as the Genesis. I'm liking some of the music, but still hate a lot of it. Apparently the boss music was made for Sonic 3D Blast, but discarded. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LL5qnQzvPlY
I m at the final boss right now and I must say I like this game a lot. I don't care about the minor complaints because when I play it I get nostalgia rushes. Best played high PS: I caught myself humming along some of the tunes of the later levels..
I still think it's shit. Only because he doesn't have any sodding momentum. Physics fail. I'd rather play the old ones.
it's certainly not "shit". It's fun to play nevertheless, despite not handling like most people wish it did - I have found myself wishing he was faster, yes, but the challenge seemed appropriate. I imagine most people who complain are those who don't fair well in the game, alas that's always the first thing to blame when sucking at a game
I'm about halfway through Sonic 4, and I'm also disappointed with the physics. I feel like a huge, disgusting nerd for caring, but I do. It just doesn't feel quite right; it feels like a generic SNES era platformer with a slight emphasis on running. I think part of what makes it feel weird/slow is that there are too many frames of animation. Sonic can't turn around or change direction without going through 180 degrees of lovingly rendered animation frames. Also the different behavior of running upright vs. spin-rolling is unintuitive. On the other hand I did sort of enjoy the new homing attack, but I wish they'd come up with some more consistently creative uses for it. Locking onto those flying spike bugs gets old.
Sonic advance had the same problem: too many frames and rotations Pretty at first, a fucking pain once the novelty wore off If you're a 13yr old kid perhaps, me I kinda suck at TF2 yet I think the game is great.
It's much better than anything Sonic has put his name on lately and I m glad they made it. Could it have been better? Depends on what you think better is but this doesn't mean the game is shit, that's all I'm saying. It got my interest wayyyy more than something like Ivy the Kiwi, like 10 folds. I like it more than Warioland:Shake it, another great 2D platformer for the Wii.
I just played the 360 demo and wasn't all that impressed with it. I don't really get what they were going for with the graphics; I think it would've been a lot better if they had rendered everything in 3D and made it a 2.5D game. The gameplay is alright, but nothing fantastic. Then again, I was never a huge fan of the original Sonic games. Also, the demo is really, really short so it's hard to make any sort of judgement on it. Those are just my impressions.
^ Flame Meister. Flame. Meister. What an absolutely fantastic name for an upscaler. From what I'm reading it sounds like it's going to be a very useful bit of kit too. Anyway, has anyone managed to get the gold trophy yet? Got the rest but I really don't think I have the skills to get the last one.
