What's up papa D? I'm keeping this thread clean. Everyone knows the history. Blah blah blah. He has his reasons. Keep it clean
Mike, this isn't neo-geo.com. It was clean, now it's sterile....but i'll play along. NOW GIVE ME BACK MY GODDAMN PAIL AND SHOVEL (and that freaking neo CD copy of NTM) AND LET ME BACK INTO THE SAND BOX.
Everyone knows that Chris and myself are, will always be, the biggest neo fans. How are you mike. Good to hear from you. What ever happened to your planned trip to come to vegas? Dude, I know everyone here and you would have a blast. Now, back to the subject. Not everyone knows the real history. Most only know the propaganda spread by ng.com members. That place was always allowed too many people to flame and insult each other. That's why I never posted there. shawn even begged me to start posting there when we were selling him his various stock purchases. He stopped telling people that he was receiving his stock from "NeoGeoFreak." lol. Those were good times. There's good reading on the thread you started "let's talk about prototypes." I come in on page 6 and start explaining things in detail.
No, he was definitely a fan but the potential for more than that was always there and you can see the signs of that from back in the DHP days. Eh, I vividly remember you posting back then that this whole neo venture was for kicks and amounted to less then 1% of both Chris and Yourselves income. Your books have been over cooked or your not good with math. And what about those six "unreleased" titles? Your telling me that you made over a quater million dollars selling conversions of 6 games. That last post of yours was tighter and believable up until a third to half of the way through but then I kept reading and it fell apart and just didn't add up much. I'm not trying to be a dick, it's just that that (alot of that) last post grossly conflicts with what you have openly said in the past. But the key thing here is: what did you really contribute? what has lasted and stood the test of time? It's not some poorly and bitterly contrived acronym to describe a home hardware/software medium. it's not a shodily executed "genre corrected insert" business model. So after all this talk and self embelishment of history, legacy, etc the question remains.......what was it all for and what has lasted. I, as well as many others can't see much (at least nothing of much importance that has not been mared in self inflicted controversy and negativity) that has lasted, let alone even been contributed past self absorbed fluff.
Dion some questions for you: How did you get the graphics for the NGF inserts? Did SNK Japan share the source graphics with you? Why did SNK have so little AES console inventory left at the time of liquidation, yet so much cd system inventory? Do you have any production numbers for CD titles? Do you have any repair documents? Would you be willing to share them? When SNK was in dire financial need, they whipped out a robot duct inspecting product. Any information on that?
I know that digital files and documents were shared and provided (not sure on the extent of this, Dion can elaborate) what has been shown openly in the past were titles with more direct links to ngf such as KOF 2000 US and Zupapa as opposed to the titles under SNK's direct umbrella/keep. The Home Cartridge consoles were mostly dried up by that point. but back then SNK still had CD system. It came along later in thier product time line and was not the success they had hoped for so back stock (in both regions) was plentifull. I remember buying my neo CD system and games direct from SNK back in 99 when they were selling them off. One of the best purchases I ever made. I still have that system.
I've always told people that SNK provided us with the digital files. We still have tons of them on MO discs and negatives/positives. Later, they came on CDs. My best guess would be that they over built the cd systems and introduced the neo cd too late/too close to the other next gen systems. The neo cd was cheaper to build and snk pitted their hopes (and a lot of research money) into it. If I had any info I would share it with you, but unfortunately I have no idea on cd production numbers. Are you sure this was the game company SNK? A few other companies have the same name/same letters. Why would a game company make a duct cleaner?
Yes it was new and it was the full size unit with the air compressor. Funny (but sad) story on that one. I sold the cabinet to a collector in new york, Anthony Love, for $1600. I took and sent Anthony plenty of photos before hand. He fell in love and the deal was set into motion. Anthony was home for the delivery and called me in a panic. The cabinet was totally trashed. I told him to refuse the delivery. No problem. Lucky for me I also had it insured for the full retail invoice of $6000.00. The shipping company had their adjuster look into it, asked me for a sales invoice (which I had from snk) and they issued me a check for $6000.00. I made $5000.00 profit on that sale alone. (as charflie sheen would say..."Winning!!" lol. It was pure luck, which I seemed to have plenty of back then. (I'll upload pictures of the damage soon) *************************** *************************** MAZE DAMAGE PICTURES ADDED!! This photo was taken in our storage warehouse when we were itemizing and labeling a shipment to the reseller ng.com. You can see the Irritating Maze cabinet in the backleft. NEW/MINT Japanese version of the Irritating Maze - upper left PHOTOS OF DAMAGE
Ugh, what a god damn shame. I wonder what shipping/frieght service he used? I also take it that since they damaged it out and paid you in full that they took/disposed of the "remains" yes? I have heard other stories like this and it just boils my blood somtimes. You know, how people can be so careless/reckless with other peoples goods and (in this case and in others) destroy an item/example that is almost one of a kind.
Is that one of the giant machines I played in Japan? It was the biggest arcade machine I had ever seen.
Oh yeah it's a big boy and a great machine. I will never forget playing the dedicated one at the old (now defunct) Time Out! arcade at my local mall and the thing blasting me in the face with air. Such a solid novelty value that can appeal to anyone.
Yes, they picked up the cabinet. But I did keep the mvs 1slot and the cartridge, and the trackball control panel(complete with trackball and graphics). Rare is an understatement. This was a Japanese cabinet art version "Ultra Denryu IraIra bou" that came direct from SNK-Japan with our buy-out. It had to be the only one in the USA. A total shame.
The compressor too? tell me you salvaged that. Thats interesting to hear that is was a japanese decorated example. To be honest I would prefer an english example but I can understand the rarity and desireablility of the one that got creamed. The good part is that given condition and distance (local pickup vs couriour) an example in collectible shape ex to nm can be had for $500 to $1,000+ but you have to have some patience. I alsoways like both the novelty factor and broad liakebility of that game/machine and I think it would be a good thing to have paired with a photo booth as well as a tellephone booth.
No. 12' long? I played a dedicated cab and I don't remember it being any deeper than a dedicated beast busters 2 cab? Perhaps there was a bridge piece that extended the distance between the cab body and controll panel body? (like a dynamo 33" showcase cab).
Why didn't you get the neo geo pocket games ? Was the market already dying for it ? I remember couple of years ago that many ebay resellers had tons of loose neo pocket games sold as new, some of them being packed together in plastic blisterpacks such as those: Do you have any informations on who packed the games this way ? PS: If I understand correctly, you bought 5000 AES games at 10 bucks each... which includes the 5 kizuna encounter (I know, I talk only about that lol) For how much did you sell those ? To whom ? (well, at least, "to collectors from which country ?") Did you get some of the other ultra rare english releases you were talking about in the other topic ? If so, how much did they sell for ?
There is another thread that talks about unreleased games and I already answered that question. "As I said before, we have no extra stock and that is why we aren't offering any more mass releases. We basically sold out many years ago. I now have less than 100 carts available, and maybe 100 cds, and that's it."
