I love the design and look of the system, but... why? People into mobile gaming, already have tablets and smartphones. People not into mobile gaming, won't care about the major selling points and will see the tablet-esque hardware as underpowered. I simply don't get it (beyond the obligatory "you need it to play 1st party games").
Huh kinda looks like a switch what a coincidence. The switch looks awesome and I will be buying one in the future.
Wicked sleek design. Not much else to say about it at the moment. I don't get too excited for anything Nintendo, these days. The FPS seems to drop in the Zelda game dramatically when he switches it to the portable mode. I think the idea for the controllers is fantastic. I see people already complaining about how uncomfortable the small ones look to use. . . well then just use the "pro" controller that they show. Problem solved. Being able to have a portable that is actually portable, but with snap off controllers that allow multiplayer without having to lug around a bunch of extra of equipment, is very smart.
@mairsil, afaik that's the only handheld that can play current console games. That's a selling point over the 3ds & vita etc.
I don't know. I don't want another handheld (I can't be the only one with neck problems that would prevent long play sessions with a handheld) and I think that it's too big to be a replacement for the 3DS (has to fit in your pocket).
His point is that the handheld part doesn't appeal to him, no more than his 3ds. And that the tablet part this seems like superfluous. That's a totally valid point of view and Nintendo should certainly try to attract those sharing it with their other features.
Uncertain, we don't see the OS at all in the teaser. The touchscreen doesn't seem to be used in the trailer either. That said, I'd be surprised if it's not touchscreen, but maybe they're trying to stop any confusion about physical controls.
My point is more that it's the same problem that people have with the development of Windows 8: It's an OS that no one asked for which "works" for both tablet and desktop systems. Guess what, it pretty much sucked at both. Trying to do multiple, disparate things (mobile + console) will always result in compromises that could have been avoided with focused products.
While I see your point mairsil, I feel like Nintendo has something with this. But ofc not everyone will agree with this. Playing in 1080p high on the TV and 720p medium on a handheld, and switching seemlessly between both, seems like a great combo to me. The difference between Nintendo and Microsoft might be that the former has a soul and really cares about both hw and sw equally.
I think the idea of taking the new Zelda with me sounds totally badass. It is a great idea, that shouldn't be looked at like the new console replacement. Didn't Nintendo say this wasn't replacing the Wii U? What if this is the 3rd option? 3DS for ultra portable, but scaled down games. Switch, for console games on the go and Wii U (or future replacement) for at home gaming I can see an updated home console really taking it to the next level. Think of it like a better version of Sony and Microsofts strategy. Instead of the PS4 Slim and PS4 Pro, Nintendo's "Slim" equivalent can actually be taken with you and played on the go. That is, if this actually is the strategy =P
Lets be honest here, Switch is for playing Skyrim on the shitter after going to Taco Bell or Chipotle. The Reason I want this is pretty simple, I miss playing Mario Games and there's no retarded gimmick this time. It's a Console, It's a Handheld, It looks sexy and from the sound of it it's also pretty beefy and not under powered, Not XBOX Albert Brooks and PS4 Pro Beefy but decent enough.
