So, did you have to pre-heat your oven before you started to bake?

Yes i preheated the oven to 230 so it would be the hot air reflowing the solder not the heating element.

Might instigate thermal shock if you just shove it in a hot oven, not sure as I have yet to do any soldering with a toaster oven yet.

He might have used a paperclip to stop the fans to overheat it maybe?...or dropped a paperclip inside to short something out?..either way paperclipping sounds new to me..i prefer the overheat and then overcool technique to force the red ring :110: it leaves no evidence of tampering.

In that case wouldnt all heat methods cause thermal shock? hell wouldnt the very manufacture of the xbox itself cause thermal shock?..

    .....whats thermal shock?? j/k

Since when do Jaspers have more RAM?

I'm aware of their internal memory units.. But that's not RAM, that's a storage device.

heh, I did the oven thing once, lasted 2 months. Tried the heatgun a short time ago, but fried some caps even though I had pretty good insulation.
Oh well, new caps already arrived, and are of a better quality than the old ones. Will swap them out and then see if it still works, my little Frankenbox (put the dvd drive on the outside of the case using longer cables to help keeping it cool inside ^^ )

And yes, Jaspers don't have more ram, they swapped the memory card for internal storage since the new dash needs more free space.

Two months precisely and my xbox takes yet another turn for the worst (no video or sound) so i put it in the oven again but for longer.....in fact i left it too long because the eject and sync button both melted into two nice pools of blue plastic . But not to worry, being the "Never say die" kinda guy i am i soldered a strip of wire to each leg of the now dead buttons and touch them together to eject/sync, oh and the video and sound is working again

Im probly gonna buy a faulty elite from ebay when this one goes again, i've revived it so many times over the years i think im gonna let it rest in peace next time

fuqi i think this motherboard will go to the bin ^^

If I were you, I'll first try the "pads" method instead of the hotgun.

I have an "error 74" 360, but i think I'll fix it the usual way. I this happens in my home, think i'll get killed lol

My PlayStation PCB capacitor blew a while ago, probably because I use a regular Xbox power cable instead of the right power cable. It was like there was a smoke machine inside.

I've also seen a guy repair a 8800GTX using this method. I think people also do this to repair Thinkpad GPUs. I'd be a bit scared to do it personally, but definitely an intuitive idea.
