We can get around that by purchasing items online  For some reason, there's no law that enforces collecting taxes across state lines. So, buying things off Amazon is usually cheaper than going to the store. No tax & free shipping.
They'll have plenty of good luck with that price point. Where's the sarcasm coming from? I'd pay 50 bucks more than a shitto Wii for a PS3 :110:
The slim is definitely the PS3 I'm going to buy. I didn't buy a PS2 until the slim edition came out either. It's going to be a good holiday season!
So is it officially gonna be 299 Euros in Europe? Considering the current exchange rate, that's a bit of a rip-off but prices are always higher for consoles in Europe anyway. I don't know why everyone's complaining about how it looks though, it's much better looking than the first model, even if the plastic looks a little too PS2. I might consider getting this if there were a little more exclusives that interested me in the slightest...maybe after GT5 comes out if they finally get rid of those dumbass license tests.
It appears that the slim got a new HDMI encoder which opens up the possibility of HDMI-CEC (which Sony ofcourse rebranded as Bravia Sync, but Samsung AnyNet, Panasonic Vierra Link, etc. will also do). Engadget also confirmed bitstreaming for HD audio: DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD can now be send: http://www.engadgethd.com/2009/08/21/ps3-slim-bitsreams-dolby-truehd-and-dts-hd-ma-audio-at-last/ One question that remains open is the power supply. I seen pics of the USA model saying its 110V. The old models also said 110V but have switching power supplies anyway. Need confirmation this is the case for the Slim as well.
Sweet. I'll check out my local Best buy. Here's a picture of the difference in layout of the regular PS3 and slim PS3
It looks like there are already two revisions of the board for the Slim. The one in the video posted above is shaped differently to accomodate the hard drive.
Yeah, prototype or dev is most likely. In the picture Karsten posted, the connector at the bottom of the Slim board looks like an SATA port, but it's facing outwards, so maybe external hard drive? That would make sense for a dev unit. Or is that port something else? (I'm not too familiar with the ports on a PS3.)
