Bought a new MP3 player today.

1GB Creative Labs Zen Nano Plus. The sound is really good plus has a customable 5 band EQ. It has some pretty nice features such as Direct MP3 encoding via the line in so no need for a PC, FM tuner which can also be recorded from. Sadly the tuner is set up for international radio or probably everywhere in the world bar Japan. You see Japanese radio starts at 76MHz to 90MHz where as most places star at 88 MHz to 110MHz or there about. This means that the player can only pick up between 88Mhz to 90Hmz of Japanese FM radio. So you can guess the chances of picking up a station are almost 0%. However I can pick up 1 TV station

Laserdiscs are just a hassle to get working right. The disks need to be really clean or else they skip a lot. Mine just has a CD player built in, not sure if it plays VCDs but I doubt it, thats what the CD-i is for lol

They were built very poorly. I owned a Pioneer 909 combo dvd/ld player that broke within 7 - 8 months of 'light' use. Another friend who owned exactly the same model also saw his break in less than a year...

It's better to buy a LD player as a seperate stand-alone machine. Both of my stand-alones are still *just about* alive after 10 years or so....

The players never took off because laserdiscs were destined to failure. They are oversized, loud as hell and discs were always over-priced. (Untill the last 3 - 4 years where they now go for peanuts (literally) on eBay.)

Well I knew that when DVD came out laserdics days were pretty much numbered. But even thouhg the format was such a huge failure in the U.S., it lasted quite a long time suprisngly. I always joke that the discs are so big it takes two people to carry them without scratching it.
