More Chinese originals today. From top left to bottom right we have:

Squirrel King - This is a very good platform action game staring pretty bad Chip & Dale look-a-likes. The game reminds me very much of Hammering Harry apart from that you throw things rather than bash them. If it is a hacked Hammering harry port then that's still great since Hammering Harry was never released on the Mega Drive anyway.

Mulan - decent platform hack & slash game.

No idea of the name - An unbelievable scrolling hack & slash game like Capcom's Knights of the Round but better!! This is the best game of it's type on the Mega Drive and it's not even official! Voice and most sound effect samples are ripped from Golden Axe but everything else is original. Sadly only one of the two copies is working. This game was produced in 1999 by Never Ending Soft.

Sonic Jam 6 - It's actually Super Mario with 16 bit graphics and Sonic taking Mario's role. Actually very good.

Tetris - Yep, it's just the same bootleg copy of the original that's been doing the rounds since the late 80's.

Lord of the Rings II - I'm well pissed off here. It's just a hack of that turn Electronic Arts game, Lord of Rings or whatever the shite was called.

Rockman / Megaman X3 - Seems to be a port of the SFC / SNES game. Looks very nice however the music is shit and the controls are a bit laggy I feel.

Got me Super Stardust HD and Everyday Shooter on PSN yesterday.
Haven't tried Everyday Shooter yet but I really liked SSHD :)

Here's the wife playing Giga Wing 2 on the Naomi (She's only 4' 10", but has really powerful shoulders as she used to be a gymnast). Utterly brilliant game, but pretty hard to play. I've still not swapped over the Player 1 position lol. When wiring up the controls I inverted all the sodding cables. I prefer having the stick on the left actually, so has worked in my favor.

So, anyway, GW2 and the Naomi 1 motherboard / BIOS are the purchases in question.

But, how do you install the custom firmware? (Cue music from the Stepford Wives...) ;-)

Seriously, I'm getting quite jealous of your Noami/Ridge Racer setups, Parris!

I only have the Naomi universal now, not the external Capcom I/O. I sold that to fund the cabinet, which is a fluke. Had it not turned up literally on my doorstep for such a small amount, then I'd not have purchased one. I've recently seen the US version of the Naomi cabinet and I must admit I wasn't all that impressed. It is an ugly looking thing. The Japanese & European unit(s) are much nicer. How hard it would be to obtain (ship) a Net City or Universal cabinet to the USA I am not sure, but they must be available locally.

The Naomi really is a great system. You touched upon this in your PM to me, but I guess that most people (me included before I started hunting for one) simply don't realise you can swap a cart or GDrom in most newer arcade cabinets, although in many instances you run into issues with control panel configuration. You are not dependant on swapping PCB and ROM boards any more (which is the hassle I had with the Ridge Racer cabinet when converted to Rave Racer).

I would suggest getting a simple set up (Naomi, PSU, Capcom I/O, Supergun and controller) and see how you get on. They have great resale value as people are always looking for spare boards or starter set ups.

Yeah, the Naomi is one of those things where you have to pay quite a bit upfront for the whole setup (For the GD Rom setup, or a Naomi 2 which is sexy as hell), but theres a ton of great games. Id love to get a setup just for Super Monkey Ball sometime, it has a banana joystick! I found I still have my Naomi 2's original box (though it has my shipping stuff on it) for some reason, though I got rid of it when I sold the Naomi 2 mb heh. Also found some hyper 64 boxes (for the MB and a Samurai Shodown I think, dunno whats it them though).

Well, if I end up with the iBook I'll ask for it to be shipped in the N2 box as I am awaiting an N2 mobo at present, although there are allegedly only 11 dedicated N2 titles.

Haha, would cost more, bigger box and all :) Virtua Fighter 4 makes it all worth it, trust me. I just had the base VF4 on a low res screen, and it was damn amazing. If only I werent a student so I could afford to hold onto everything.

Finds plural, the PSP kit box actually does have a PSP kit in it ;)

I also seem to have got a XeDK's AV cable, it was tied in with all the TOOL's cables! Worth the 200mile drive...

Two IREM "X Multiply" arcade PCB's (M72 version), one of them is lacking the license seal so it's probably converted.

    Lovely sexy machine.

Yeah it does look a bit anemic doesn't it. US SNES, exotic for New Zealand.

Stunt Race FX, which has not aged well, and Thunder Force IV, which has.

Shienryu and it's unrealised sequel Shienryu Explosion.
