I was going to mention something along those lines... any idea why this is? From everything I hear about PCs in Japan it seems like you're a few years behind, which is very odd.

Maybe it's because most of the parts are imported so that's why it cost more? Also Japan has never really been a massive PC country for home use apart from the basic word or excel stuff. Even PC gaming is pretty much a very small area compared to the west.

    !OT warning!

Solaris is a tough one with about 3 hours of play length iirc (and I can't understand Russian either). But definitely worth watching. I wrote a crappy review (in German) some 4 years ago on the "blog that no one read" comparing Soderberghs and Tarkovskys version (http://varia.exblog.jp/623004/).

Yeah, I guessed that by reading a lot in advance. Thanks for the review link, seems like I will have to watch the remake as well. I thought I'd rather ignore it for now but it sounds actually quite interesting in its own way.
The Tarkovsky version takes 169 minutes of my lifetime but I think it's worth it. There're few better ways to pass time (alone^_^) than by watching a film you will think about later.

Few things today. First off my V-Sports came. Actually not as shit as I thought but I need to give it more time. Found a mint Sega Saturn style PC USB controller in Hard Off of all places! and finally I found a Panasonic AV box in the bin!

Here you can see inside the V-Sports box. Comes with all you need plus the extra 10 games on a cart which looks smaller than a GBA cart.

Here's a close up of the Panasonic box I found. It seems to be some sort of AV switch box but has no power input. I have no idea what it's for or if it works since the video out seems to be a HDMI port which my TV doesn't have. It's actually quite heavy so what ever it is it's probably a quality item.

I think that Panasonic device is probably a Plasma TV's tuner box. Before Plasma TV's were mass-market, the tuner and additional A/V inputs were placed in a separate box that the user could purchase as an extra (or it was included if the sockets can't physically fit inside the Plasma panel).
It probably takes it's power directly from the Plasma via the bespoke connector, and therefore won't work by itself (unless you could modify it with a schematic diagram).

Theres a bunch of Saturn USB controllers coming out of Hong Kong, not certain they are official though. Seems to be what you bought :p Dunno if they are licensed or what, but they are supposedly pretty nice

Thanks for the info on the Panasonic box, Oldgamingfart :) (Love that title)

@Borman, - nah, this is the real deal mate from Sega Japan. Been after one of these for ages. Even though a 2100 yen for a used (but mint) controller seems a lot it's well worth the cash. As we all know, the Saturn controller is pure bliss. Why else would they have made them for the PS2 :p: Seriously though, The Saturn controller is one thing that Sega did manage to get right. Fingers crossed that Wii Emulation will support USB controllers.

Some of them look like the real deal as well (basically, they look like what you got :p), doesnt make a difference, as they are apparently just as good. They work on the PS3 as well :D

FYI Yakumo, thats a DVI port, not HDMI.

As JackAz said that is a dvi port. If your tv has a vga port you can use a dvi cable with dvi to vga connector to use it with your tv.

No. It's too angular at the sides to be DVI. Like oldgamingfart already pointed out, that's the connector to the TV it was originally intended for use with, and you'll also notice there's no power input so power must come through there too. I imagine the DVI-style connector was used because it's mass produced and has a large number of connections.

Oh, ok. thanks for that. My TV does have a VGA input though, just those none standard outside of Japan D-Terminal connections.

The outer part of the connector might be different - but that is a DVI interface. Bend the connector on a DVI cable and prove me wrong! ;)
But yeah I know what you mean about the power thing, maybe it's a modified DVI Interface, that's why the socket changed - to stop people frying something.

    Either way, cool item. :)

Given that the power comes in through the connector, there's not much chance of anything being fried, since the device won't be on. I still wouldn't chance it, though.
