New Jasper 360's don't break so easily, this and the Falcon model are in fact the first ones that I'd consider importing (for shooters) as I am just as reluctant as you for obvious reasons.

I know you hate Sony product Yakumo, but really, the PS3 would be the ideal choice for you, region free and all that.

Yeah, I wouldn't touch anything before a Falcon. Even so, all the decent 360 games are japanese and I can't play them on my PAL console. :crying:

I just hate PlayStation :110: I'm currently eyeing up a nice 42 inch Sony Bravia for the living room but it's on hold at the moment because I just had my car engine tuned and bought that digital HD video camera. But once all that's paid off the Sony will take pride of place in the living room.

To tell the truth I'm really interested in many of the 360 games plus it has all the shooters that I want. Can anyone tell me how to check if the 360 is a Jasper or a Falcon model? I see loads used in Japan for decent prices but are they the shitty ones or not?

A majority of Western Xbox 360 games are region free. It's usually the JPN titles that are region coded. So Yakumo would be pretty well off with a JPN Xbox 360 in terms of worldwide compatibility.

Buy a current system and you're good to go.

Basically, if you buy a new in box system from a store, you're likely to get a Jasper.

If you want to be sure (or want to check an old system) just look at the power rating on the lower left hand corner of the sticker. That'll tell you what the draw is and based on that you'll know the system revision.

My Elite broke recently, but Microsoft were able to fix and return it within a week. Not sure what motherboard type it is though. I'm assuming they replaced the faulty mobo with the newest revision.

Anyway, this is more or less retro so I'll plonk it in here. I managed to haul the old 28" TV from my parents house as it broke for the umpteenth time and they've now got some fancy LCD. I thought I could use it solely for gaming as the tube's still in good nick. All it needed was some new capacitors in the line output stage, and some dry joints re-soldered and it's now up and running again.

I re-aligned the geometry (it's all done through potentiometers on the chassis), as I found a service manual online which had the correct procedure. A test card was generated in RGB (via SCART) from an old XBox (with DVD kit), and a test card DVD:

The CRT is made by Videocolor, who supplied tubes for the Hantarex Polo/ MTC9000 monitors (as used in some older arcade machines). They seem to last forever:

Easiest way to check is the amperage. (At least I think it's amperage..)

On the back of the console it'll either have 16.2A, which is Zepher and earlier, which suck. My own is 14.2A, a Falcon and the most current is the 12.2A Jasper. Obviously I'd advise you to look out for the Jasper, and use it horizontally. Verticle 360 seem to die faster. :katamari:

So basically I'm looking for a 360 with 12.2 to 14.2 amperage. Great info Segata Sanshiro and hl718. Once I get all my other bills paid I'll invest in a 360 for some great shooting action :)

Nanashi No Game arrived today, lol my second copy of the thing, let it be a lesson make totally sure that you don't want to play it again before selling  What a pain to find new i thought it would be easy to get again, err nope.

Play asia was sold out, ncsx was sold out & ebay only had a few & they were all used. Looks like this game only had one print run & then that was it.

Indeed, I only found out about the Arcade relation after Googling the model number. They were used in high-end TV's in the mid eighties, I think some Bang & Olufsen TV's use them also. The later OEM tubes made by ITT/ Nokia weren't as good unfortunately.

I think the BreakerPro swapdisc should work: http://discoazul.co.uk/breaker-pro-v1-1.html
You get some bits with it to go inside the drives of the different Playstation models (to defeat the lid switch).

But ventilation is better when laid horizontal.

    Yes like that.

Theory behind my reasoning is that side has no ventilation holes, whereas the bottom of the console does have them. Anyway enough on this.

Yes indeed! All except for the SMRPG cartridge which I snagged at the retro niche on the other side of the floor (which also had a tasty looking Sega Nomad but one of the Kotaku editors snapped it up first ).

Oh sweet, I'll take a look. A troublesome issue I've come across however, is that CC is a 2 disc game which makes switching in the 2nd disc rather difficult..
