Thought it was the coolest looking device I'd ever seen back in 1998, better late than never:

Also grabbed a Nomad & immediately took it for a spin:

Yeah that's right, £280 with the JAP N64. Jumped on it since there seems to have a been a lack of 64DD auctions recently (I only ever see ridiculous Buy-It-Nows).

Also I really underestimated how hard the Expansion Kit tracks are :-0.

Naaaa there's nothing for the 32x to plug into on the Nomad so it just takes up space. Using just the SMS cart & converter doesn't work either but this could be due them both being PAL and the Nomad being region locked (something I didn't know until after I'd bought it >.>).

Be interesting to find out whether NTSC ones would work or no...

The Nomad lacks the hardware to play SMS games so it won't work regardless.

I bought a new monitor + DVI-D cable last night and it arrived today. As I'm skint I could only afford a 21.5" screen.

    Pro: I can DirectX 11 @ 1080p now (old screen only did DX11 @ 720p as unsupported in 1080i)
Con: 5.5" smaller than old screen, crappy 1 watt speakers

I'm using my headphones now which is a small annoytance as I hate wearing them but as my walls are paper thin and my mum binned my 5.1 surround sound system when the PSU blew in my last PC maybe it's for the best.

It took some time to get used to, the smaller size is really annoying in the day as I'm distracted by everything I can see - but now it is night/dark I'm chugging away as a warrior through Dragon Age II on Nightmare difficulty inj 1080p with DirectX 11 mode on, all graphics to maximum settings and the high resolution texture pack installed and in spite of my issues I couldn't be happier!

Snap. Picked up a Mac keyboard and new 2.1 speaker set while I was at it.

Development on a 13" screen gets tiresome after 3 years :)

    What monitor did you get?

I grabbed a AOC 22" LED one from PC World. They were £109 on sale, I got this one for £90 as it was a display model and it's tasty.

Managed to score 3 DVI cables from Curry's at 97p each!!! Now that is a january sale!

A few new buys today starting with Riot Act 2 or better known as Crackdown 2 in the west. It probably got it's name changed in Japan because of the late 80's Sega game of the same name. Also got a new MAME PC for connecting to the TV. Sony Vio with a 2.5GhHz CPU so that will do just fine for the stuff I want to play on it. And finally my new toy, a Maicomsoft XAV-2s RGB converter.

The XAV-2s RGB converter is a real geeks bit of kit. Even the instruction manual talks about different PCBs and Japanese computers and their RGB settings. The unit is made with the gamer in mind. While it doesn't up-scale the image it takes a pure RGB image and converts it VERY WELL in to ether S-Video or crappy composite. However, even the crappy composite looks better than a native console would.

Dip switches and H-Sync and position plus RGB settings for compatibility with pretty much everything out there including 15Khz arcade boards.

some pictures of it running on my Toshiba Regza LED screen (love those blacks!)

Street Fighter Zero 2 running on the Saturn through RGB to S-Video in 1080p.

Rolling Thunder 2 and Bare Knuckle 2 both on the Mega Drive via RGB to S-Video in 1080p

Very nice price on that. I wanted one of those 22" LED AOC's for my birthday but for some reason my sister got me the 20" one which has a lower res (1600x900) and only has a d-sub connection. Picture is still good on it though and much better than my previous dual 17" setup.

Interesting device, though I hear scart to component or hdmi converters are good as well.

They normally are if you pay a good amount for them. The cheap ones are awful though. maicomsoft make a nice one but it's a bit expensive. You may as well go the whole hog and buy a XRGB system for a little extra. The one I bought is quite cheap at 9000 yen on Amazon (Shipping in). If you don't mind having no scan line converters (a very good but cheap one can be added to the set up) then it's a good alternative to the XRGB systems. Saying that, this box only accepts 21 pin and 15pin RGB inputs where as the XRGB will take pretty much anything and add in a load of cool effects.

I got that Gomora game the other week as well. Quite a strange title.

A HANNS-G HH221DP - because it was the cheapest that met my requirements (1080p60, 5ms or better, DVI-D/HDMI and speakers) http://www.ebuyer.com/246954-hanns-g-hh221dp-full-hd-lcd-21-5-monitor-hh221dp

I had asked for upto 5 working days free delivery and it arrived next day which was a pleasant I surprise. Once I got rid of the cinematic colour settings everything was fine. Next time I fancy a 2560x1440 or 2560x1600 screen with higher contrast and lower ms but that will be some time away - especially as I'd need better hardware to push that many pixels in games.
