Most of the white label SNES carts came from ebay seller Phoenixtrading (later changing to something like thumb monkey games) based out of Waltham Massachusetts. I went there in person in 2008 and the owner said that they were purchased in bulk directly from the company and that generic labels were used so that they wouldn't be sold at retail for substantially more than what he got them for. Guy was a flake, so take the info with a grain of salt, but they weren't boots as they had plain ol' retail PCBs inside.
Interesting, thanx for the info... yea all the snes games seem to be retail when booted up... I've made of short video, that I just shot with my phone & upped to youtube, of some other stuff I have around while we are all waiting for next week (probably Wednesday)...
I say this as someone EXTREMELY interested in the Sonic thing, but...do you think we could cut all of this off into a separate topic? I really like the idea of this thread, and it would be easier to read through if we stuck to the topic.
I agree, sorry that I kinda hijacked the thread with this. My original rational was to just post the pic & then later follow up with a new thread... My next post about this will definitely be in it's own thread...
Yes, that is the plan. Once I fly back & have access to the package I will roll the camera, open the box, & we will all see what happens from there...
So interested, Sonic 1 was the first video game i remember playing. Good work on aqquiring it even if it does turn out to be a dud
Thanks! Yes, I have fond memories of playing Sonic 1 for the 1st time at a Comp USA kiosk! It was right near Funcoland & Franklyn Mills in PA so me & my family always made a day trip of it. In the next few days I should be able to fly back & retrieve the package...
Added atreyu187's latest DC release. Not everyone can see the downloads section I take it, so this release I can see going unnoticed by a lot of the net, until the file started getting spread around anyway.
Added it, although it's not the pure vanilla build that I'd consider a real release of it. Certainly not in a preservation point of view. I also got a Toejam & Earl 2 proto for Genesis I'll release eventually. Hope I can add more to this list someday myself
Star Odyssey just became public, till now it has never been dumped. If it is ok I will upload it. Also Super Mario 64 Mega Drive pirate cart was released this year. Really cool conversion. Any interest in it here?
I have a copy of Mario World 64 I brought back with me after my last visit home, hoping my dump of it could be useful. Ended up being beat by whoever sent Eke-Eke their dump though =p Not that it matters, a Retrode doesn't fully dump the game correctly so mine wasn't a proper dump to begin with. They're really much better with two players. A lot of the fun gets lost just playing them by yourself.
(Patched) Super Mario World 64 This was released this year, this is the patched variant and works on EverdriveMD and any other flash cart or emulator. If it is ok I will post the Star Odyssey ROm as well. Been trying to patch it for use with the EverdriveMD as well.
