MottZilla has it right getting another PS3 is the best bet if you want to enjoy the world of online and homebrew at the same time. The scene isn't done yet and it can be actively seen in the new FBANext emulator that was released today with full HD shadowing support. Looks really nice on some games I have to say!

What is this "Full HD Shadowing" you speak of?

It increases the renders in game making it look more high definition

Oh wow, is there any sort of concept pictures or even screenshots of what that looks like?

Looks like all the usual interpolation filters you're used to on a PC emulator (i.e. it looks like shit IMO).

    edit: click me (high res)

oh, you mean it's not any different than the stuff we've seen on PC emulators for years?
And that emulators on Xbox 1 did?

Slightly disappointing but , if at a point they implement SuperScale2X filtering that'd make me happy. My personal favorite filter.

Agreed. Looks like shit. I'll never understand why people think that looks good.

The worst is when they auto-stretch a 4:3 game to fill widescreen, like Symphony of the Night on XBLA. Someone should be shot for that...

That's strange - I haven't looked directly at it but all the screenshots I've seen (as well as the top images that come up on Google Images for 'symphony of the night xbla') show it as 4:3 with a background on the rest of the screen, like these: http://www.destructoid.com/castlevania-sotn-to-hit-xbla-wednesday-30434.phtml

Might be my memory going. I'm sure you could stretch it and 90% sure that's how it defaulted.

edit- yeah, I'm wrong. It defaults to the interpolation filter but not to stretching.

So, I wonder what Sony will do once people start hammering console id's to get the whole pool banned. Start banning use accounts?

Sony sent out the ban notices a day after the ps3 scene figured out how to get modded ps3s online without updating to 3.56. It involved altering one of the certificate files.

I think the way sony would know your ps3 is modded is by doing a check for one of these altered certificates. Since you can spoof a 3.55 ps3 into looking like a 3.56 online (allegedly) some kind of software check besides what version your on would be how they would check if its altered or not.

I'd be very surprised if an OFW 3.56 ps3 that once had firmware would be banned. For those getting rid of cfw, I'd recommend putting the ps3 into service mode and updating to OFW from there to be sure.

Not sure if it'll work forever, but I read that people using FuckPSN+history cleaner when online, and playing homebrew, emulators, backups with wireless disabled and ethernet unplugged hasn't got them banned yet. I might be interested in this if it works for a while.
