I don't know if a PS3 Blu-ray drive could even read a GD-R? I assume the Dreamcast emu will use ISO images or burned CDs. Anyway, things are starting to move along nicely. The Open Pstore project has been started to distribute homebrew directly onto your console. An LV2 Memory Dumper tool has also just been released by team Blackb0x. Be interesting to see what hackery arises from this.
For information about the DC emulator, lookup nulldc. That's the emulator. It runs ISO files, not sure if it runs GDI. Pretty sure it doesn't run off CD-Rs but it's possible with the right plugin that it does. But I'm not sure if anyone knows how the PS3's optical drive works in the sense of can you access a disc that isn't a specific format. PS1 and PS2 authenticated discs and if it failed you could not read data from it regardless of if you had software control. I ordered one of those Xbox 360 boards that you would use to JTAG that can also be programmed for psgroove. It uses the PIC18 series or something like that. It was cheap, 24$ shipped. Edit: I just read that someone figured out you can run PS3 games off DVD-Rs with the PSGroove exploit and Backup Manager so it seems reading data from disc doesn't have any ps1/ps2 style lockout.
Perhaps someone here might make a faq in the sony area on how to make a ps3 key (for legal purposes only please)
Really? Do you think that will happen? You can already get some board for pretty cheap. But I'm not sure you could even profit off 3$. Maybe they'll be that price when people are just off loading them cause no one wants them anymore.
at8 clone is under $1.00 so why not? Teensy is $18 so figure the chinese make it cheaper, $9 each. Here's a list of compat games: https://spreadsheets.google.com/lv?key=tqjzdwQGOhsHl_KH0KiEC3w&toomany=true#gid=0
This is true for pretty much any drive I've seen.. the laser will always remain on whilst the disc is rotating unless you've specified otherwise, or the disc has been spun down due to a timeout. I suspect it still requires a disc in the drive so it can return the correct "OK" status to the code running in the games.
I used my HTC touch pro 2 to jailbreak my PS3 and it works like a charm. Hopefully they'll figure something out so i wont have to boot my phone into android everytime is start my PS3. I'm ready for some homebrew !
I got a bulk quote on the ps3break under $28 now. Approaching the level of teensy and shipping. However teensy seems so much more useful. You can add a screen to teensy!
Here you go May I present the PSbodge. Used the Atmega162 as that was all I could get my hands on before everywhere sold out (had to solder QFN :crying Ok Ok before anyone says.. I know, no caps on the osc or vcc pins, but it does work fine everytime for me anyway as the thing only runs on bootup. If you arent bothered about updating dont bother wiring up the HWBTN and RST lines, as the chip goes into bootloader mode by default when not programmed. Works fine with the Teensy 1.0 code. Maybe someone can improve it a little?
Has anyone tested if the backup manager will allow you to backup / play prototype games? no THE Prototype game, but beta games in general. Or is it still a ps3 Test only thing?
I tried on the one I have, and it didn't work, but that was from directly extracting files. Ill try again at some point by using Jailbreak to extract the files, which would be the proper way of getting it to work.
