Thanks for the tip, Mottzilla. I was wondering if anyone else has the problem I'm having. I do not have an HD tv. Its not even a flat screen. Its a big old tube tv. Whenever I load up emulators like SNES9X or Mednafen that have text navigation menus, the text is always slightly off screen to the left. I can guess what the folders are based on the last parts of their names, but the first 4 or so letters are off the screen. Is there a video setting I can change or something to fix this? Its just an aesthetic problem, but it is annoying.
I don't see why not, after all the beta games would only work on debug PS3s, but since now we can 'turn on' debug mode beta games could be installed.
find the service menu code or if it's really old look for some pots to adjust and change the geometry of the screen. I have used these tricks to dial in every crt tv i bought. In my case every tv was poorly adjust at the factory even a $2000+ 36" flat glass sony xbr... In your case it could just be the emulator. You would have to test other systems and games to get a over all feel for your screen..
It's caused by foolish developers who don't take the overscan into account when writing software (essentially, older TVs crop the edges of the screen off due to various reasons). I don't think it's a good idea to meddle with the service menu settings just to solve this problem, as it'll end up meaning that other video (esp. TV) may display a black bar or garbage down one side. The best solution is to either get the devs to fix it, or get the source and fix it yourself.
All the Xbox emulators had options to adjust screen position and size. Even on more modern TVs like LCDs it often wasn't going to fit your screen properly with the default options. So the PS3 developers just need to add the same option.
Apparently the PSjailbreak update for 3.42 and 3.5 will be released Monday but we all know how they are about deadlines...
After all this time and promises, i'm still not that impressed with this whole jailbreak thing. An Acer Aspire Revo runs XBMC and all emulators you can possible want and has HDMI out. The only thing jailbreak seems worth it, it's to install games on the internal or external hdd.
obviously because they are working their asses off to get it stable. Right? X-o Stuff takes time. There are emulators on other systems that took ages to become more stable and some that still aren't perfect. AKA Emulators on PSP.
the same could be set of desktops during the xbox 1 hack days. a lot of times these things are done for the fun or novelty of it. i'd also like to add that my ps3 can easily output interlaced video (for crt play) while the revo cannot. what exactly did you expect the jailbreak to do?
Install linux distros with full access to the GPU. XBMC Shitload of emulators Homebrew apps & games Make me some coffee in the morning etc :033: Stuff like this takes time I know, and it will be the turning point for me to actually jailbreak my own ps3  Allthough I love the idea being lazy and all to have all games installed on hdd, this doesn't match online play etc.
I just said i'm not impressed. As much it's cool to have homebrew stuff running on the PS3, i don't know if it's worth the hard work when there's a better solution already. You can get an small desktop solution like the one i mentioned, install XBMC plus any games and emulators already fully developed (or under development). Then you have a great HTPC solution that does everything smoothly (and with an amazing inteface i might add) Most people who got jailbreak wants all those things on the PS3 now (just check any commom messageboard). But of course things like that need time and lots of work. It will surely take time as it would have to be written / rewritten. The question is, it's that really necessary? I mean, XBMC runs pratically on any small desktop with HDMI out. Emulators would benefit from that as well. The only real stuff would be linux and homebrew apps / games.
Let me know where I can find this "better solution" with its full roster of emulators, linux distros etc that can also play PS3 games. It's one less box under the TV, a bunch less cabling and connectivity crap to deal with. Is it so hard to see why this appeals to people with a PS3?
I'm in agreement with Johnny here. While it's certainly nice and will be nice if the PS3 can do all those things, they are all things your PC can do for you already and probably even better than the PS3 ever will be able to do. So that makes this pretty much about either developing and playing homebrew PS3 games or running copied games off the HDD.
I don't own a hdmi out desktop, I do own a PS3 which would handle HD content fine. The thing is the PS3 markets as the multimedia center, but it sucks. The menu's suck, the codec support sucks.. I don't specifically need XBMC, but mkv support amoungst other codecs would be desired.
