Well after my wife came back from the Ballet at Covent Garden last night and I had to drop her freind off I dropped in to my mates store (GAMESTATION) They had 40 pre-orders for PS3 Wednesday they had 20 delivered, then yesterday another 40 So they are 20 overstock There are several ways of looking at this Let the battle begin
too expensive is the first thing that comes to mind really. the PS brand has a big fan-base and although no real games stand-out at the moment for the platform, people will still want to make themselves happy with buying something new. I m pretty sure disappointed will kick in when they realize that a month has passed and their shinny new box is collecting dust with not much playtime. In my view, the PS2 is still king at the moment, the PS3 has nothing substantial to offer as of this writing
I went to all 3 game store in my city and I must say it's kind of disapointing not even a demo pod apart from the usual PS2 and 360 ones. Only a Motorstorm display wouhou, I was expecting to see that thing in action and play with it but only got to GRAW2 for a few second, still not a big fan BTW. So it's PS3 launch day and I got home with a Megadrive game... Sabre
Things won't really take off until the price drops and you get big titles like GTA IV and FFXIII out there.
The euro MSRP is just crazy, is like sony is trying to get back all the money they lost at the Japan and US launchs. But thats how things work in europe, like a spanish friend told me: "we're PALetos" (paleto is like dork over there). Whoa thats..............ironic:lol: EDIT: check this out in london launch sony was giving away free 46inch HDTVs with each PS3 sold, plus a taxi ride home, which if you live in the outskirts I believe is gonna be expensive.
Nah, the whole "perpective" of that phrase is kinda weird, more like you guys are being swindled by every single game company...
To be honest though what system isn't like that after launch? Every system has that initial batch of mostly mediocre games that coast by on the "wow factor" and then it takes anywhere from three to nine months before the good stuff comes along. That's just how it is.
"Sony has declared its launch of PlayStation 3 to date as a success, saying early sales are faster than those of its predecessor PS2. " I'm not surprised giving away 42inch HD TVs. F*ing tossers. I'd wait for 36 hours just for the TV then flog the PS3 as I'm sure many will. Also did you notice the interview with the woman on the BBC page is done infront of a Nintendo Wii and Wii sports ?!! Yakumo
Now I was quite young around the launch of the SNES, but .. the launch titles were anything but bad or mediocre N64 too, had an extremely good title to boot, Mario. GC, dissappointed me partially, but it gave the world the one game I ve spent so many hours in multiplayer - Super Smash Bros Melee (I have my reservations whether Brawl can top it - it was excellent in every sense) XBOX had its halo (Which has a big fanatic following) and PS2..oh that didn't have anything (Tekken Tag? ) ..just to name a few!
they get so much publicity from giving away these TV sets. I mean yeah like Yakumo said, I'd wait inline to get one of those TVs then maybe sell the system - not like Sony is doing it because they love their customers or anything.
Except that the TV thing wasn't advertised, it was kept as a surprise for those that queued for the launch event.
Hey, to everyone who bought a European PS3: How does the PS2 emulation work for the games that are on the BC list? Does it display in a higher resolution/full screen on a HDTV?
I'll give you that. Most systems tend to have one good to great game at launch. With that said I still stand by the fact that the rest though tend to be sub par (Especially 3rd party titles) and that it take about half a year for quality games to consistently show up.
Well my mate came home from working in Gamestation and immediately went online. I was expecting him to say it had been a mad rush, that the store failed to provide sufficient numbers of units, that people were disappointed, little children were crying & fanboys were filling their shorts in anticipation. Instead he mentioned that they had received more units than they had orders for, which in a huge city I was surprised by. Not only that, but they had a large number of units available to sell. He also confirmed that Game were in exactly the same position. So, the next day I plodded into town (was going in to pick a couple of PSP titles for my 22hr train ride) and was surprised to learn that every store had them. Hastly hand written signs on the likes of WHSmith and Currys all stated "PS3 IN STOCK". Out of curiosity I went in and asked. Only 3 stores had stock less than double figures. Everywhere else at 11am on Friday still had sufficient numbers of PS3 units. I had seen a poster with "Pre-order your PS3 today" only a couple of days before the launch and in my ignorance I had thought "No chance!" It seems however that pre-ordering was a pointless exercise. Just walk in and pick it up folks! In Gamestation I actually sat listening to one guy on the mobile 'phone speaking to his partner and his line of reasoning was "Look, the 360 is miles cheaper and we can use the difference to get some games..." Which is exactly the arguement put forward by the stores, the staff and Z-Net who were interviewed by the BBC at midnight on Radio 4. My independent store had 3 left, but expected more stock yesterday (another 20 units or so). He was struggling to get people interested and those 3 units were still available when I went back at 1pm to pick up my items. So, from my experience of launch days the interest is lacking, the price is too high and the hype hasn't worked. Precisely what people have been telling Sony for months. Had I known Sony London were giving 46" TV's away and giving you the taxi fare home, I'd have gone down. I wonder whether they'd cover the 600mile fair back to Glasgow?
The PS3....should I, shouldn't I??? Here's my take on it: - I'm about to buy a HDTV 1080p....in a few weeks time. Would love BluRay/HD-DVD to see what it can do...but that's the problem. Why buy a stand-alone HD player, now, when XBox360 (with HD-DVD Drive) or PS3 (BluRay) can do it just as well, if not better, and you get a games console thrown in??? Sounds simple...but there's just too many catches. For the XBox360 it's a £130 add-on...and will it upscale standard DVDs??? PS3 it's included (obviously)...but DOESN'T upscale DVDs...yet (firmware upgrade due sometime)!!! So I'd also need an upscaling DVD player...or I'll be watching all my 'old' DVD's in low-def. If I want a next-gen console that plays HD-DVD/BluRay I'm looking £400+. Then I need to buy an upscaling DVD Player. But...and it's a HUGE but...when you look at sites such as play-asia.com the PS3 is shipping for £307 (60GB) or £250 (20Gb). But NOT to European countries. Therefore I can't...simply can't...buy something in the UK that is selling for £120 cheaper in Asia. My Solution...I'm waiting...because??? I'd like the PS3 to be £250-£300...with upscaling...with more than 1 or 2 killer games. or I'd like the XBox 360 to be £250-£300...with upscaling...and HD-DVD built in. XBox 360.5 anyone???? J.
