78,000 for France in two days (they supposedly sold over 100,000 during the whole week end). How other systems did over their first two days: PS2 63,000 Wii 75,000 360 49,000 http://www.cnetfrance.fr/news/home-...-trombe-pour-les-ventes-de-la-ps3-de-sony.htm
I reckon the PS3 is going to do better in Europe than the USA. So far they have sold 600k out of the 1million (since Friday, apparently): http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=74689
It wouldn't surprise me. The software just wasnt there (and to an extent still isnt) at the US launch.
Do you guys think there's any significant national loyalty to the 360 as an American product? Not saying there is, just genuinely wondering.
not really. it's wide-spread and well established because 'it got there first'. the PlayStation brand has dragged the Ps3 in consumers' homes more than the games it offers.
The more that sale the better it is for us since game companies look at those numbers to determine who they will make games for. Although you do know this is a conspiracy.. Sony was sending their own people in to buy units and make the number bigger. We know it the evidence is out there. Its all document in the new project blue book.
Thats just the tip of the iceberg... I know for a guy who's the cousin of the son of the janitor of the building where Kutaraghi went to the toilet once, that the PS3 is actually made of dolphins and puppiesh:h: Only you can stop it! join the neo-dumb-dirtyhippie movement!
Oh dear: Sales have plummeted 82% over the second week, apparently: http://gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=23977
:noooo: Oh wait all systems kind of do this. Watch the final weekly sales number come back and the console is still 1st for the week.
Yes, but the difference being between the PS3, the Xbox360, the Wii, the GameCube, etc. were that they plummeted 80% because most places were out of stock. Gamasutra: UK Sales Chart, Week ending December 10th: '...With no new stock of Xbox 360 consoles and many stores still unable to fulfill initial pre-orders, it is unsurprising to find that titles for the new format have slipped further down the chart.' Admittedly though, they only had stock of 70,000 consoles at launch, but I am still a bit suprised at the PS3 drop especially as they haven't gone away. Personally, I have still yet to see an exclusive that jumps out (apart from MGS4, but then again I still haven't purchased any of the non-NES ones). As I have said many a time (though not necessarily here), the PS3 *will* sell lots of consoles, but the question is more which console the buying public will pick. Admittedly I have not seen a single demo pod in my travels (save for a display model in a Blockbuster Video, but that was just a shell in a box), which can't be helping the average consumer decide on what console is best. I do find it interesting though how all the Wii demo pods have become video demos only after all that 'customers not putting straps on' debacle.
It's rather hasty to jump on sony already tho the following week over a 80% drop when there were more then enough stock avalible on launch. If sony only shipped a limited quanity like prior platforms, You can garenty it would be a total repeat of what other platforms had (huge drop off because of lack of stock). Esentualy everybody is getting on sony's case to make the Euro launch seem like a total failure. There is no suprise with sony because there was more then enough stock so anybody who actualy wanted one and could afford it already bought it. 80% less units sold is still a huge amount of units for a week and probably still makes it the top selling system for the week. Ps3 atm game wise is in the same issue 360 was last year (imo actualy a little better off). Microsoft did exceptionaly well by releasing a year early. If they did not the ps3 would be in a much more favorable light compaired to the 360. Regarding demo pods (here in canada). I agree and its an issue practicaly anywhere. I never found a ps3 demo unit to play till practicaly launch week (and only in 1 freaking store) which is just stupid. 360 on the other hand had a demo pod out much in advance and gave me time to fully try it out (kameo & CoD2) well before launch rolled around. Wii on the other hand did not show up till around launch and only EB got one. hell EB games has gotten tired of letting people play the wii (since it's not strapped down to the console) and the batteries dying that they most often dont let anybody play anymore.
As promised a few picks on my short walk from my office....10-12 minutes To take your mind of the PS3 launch
PS3 Trails GBA... Source: http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/npd/nintendo-ds-god-of-war-ii-top-march-sales-charts-ps3-trails-gba-%5Bupdated%5D-253845.php
Standing in a local independent store staring at a pile of PS3 units not selling is quite depressing. Argos have a row of them marked with their price and the bizarre tag line "Hot item: Great Value!" - hmmm, really? I have had it confirmed by staff of one major company that they have simply stopped ordering them in to stores as the just can't seem to shift 'em! The sales figures prove that they ARE selling, but boy it is NOT what Sony were expecting.
