No, that is true. I should have been more restrained in my reply, or (better) pm'd him instead. Apologies to the forum for that, and I'll delete my post, though my objection to superg's post still stands.

Maybe baseless but I don't see his replies as fueling his own ego... Just sorting out someone else's.

Superg is basically coming to this forum and telling us we are all wrong for looking after our own. We all know the drama here, he has no clue. This forum is pretty good at self policing and sorting out the scammers and that's why I like it. People being vigilant is what makes that possible.

In short, don't come into "our" house and tell us we are wrong to not blindly trust a project that's had a sketchy rep, its what we do and why this forums market place is so successful.

Thanks, but beepboop was right, the tone of my reply was immature and childish - I'm quick enough to point out when other people post without thinking, so it would be hypocritical of me to not admit when I do it. I could make excuses (it was a crap day at work, and I saw provocation and was glad of an outlet) but it's never right to escalate a personal argument (which was what I took it to, and I shouldn't have) on an open forum. I should have pm'd him about the matter instead.

Note that I didn't mean to say anything about the legitimacy of the PSIO, just about the reply - I have no idea whether is and I have no wish to speculate on it. I'll wait for RJ to make a video and convince us, or disappoint us. It could go either way. :)

Anyway, to get the thread back on topic, sort of, what's the PS1 homebrew scene like? I've never looked into PS1 homebrew, but if PSIO (or another PS1 backup project) does come to fruition (please!) then I'll definitely be interested to see what's produced for the PS1. I assume PS1 homebrew programs would work on a backup device?

I wish Open PS2 Loader (that allows you to load and play PS2 games from a hard drive) could run PS1 games, that would be fantastic.

Bad_ad's post was excellent, but I would also like to point out a couple more things. When you are trying drum up interest in your product & get it out there, it is good to show potential buyers that this thing functions as described, as this will get people interested. But when someone asked for some video proof, this post came shortly after. . .

So let me get this straight. The idea is that people should just blindly trust that this device works, & if anyone questions something about it or requests proof they will be blacklisted from being able to obtain it in the future? What lesson would you be teaching them by that? To be ignorant & gullible when making transactions over the internet?

I like the reply Twimfy got when he said that if cybdyn would show him a video of it then he might as well show everyone.

If he doesn't want to see it personally then he is just trolling? Umm, no, how about he is trying to inform potential buyers on these forums of the thing you are developing and keeping shrouded in secret. In fact, he would have been helping you out.

If the PSIO turns out to be legit, great, but I have lost all interest. Especially after how adamant he seemed about not upholding license agreements.

    Just not to feed trolls.

Look, I was annoyed by fact, that he exposed his private message, and if you guys think this is good idea, I don't know what to tell you. This is not fair.

I am really sorry for you, that you loose interest due to some stupid/offensive/trolling forum posts. :)

Nothing was released at the time of GPL talks, right? GPL means to give sources only if you already released something to general public. He may use whatever he wants at his home/company and not to release anything. I believe everything will be clean at time of release. But anyway, purpose of this device is playback of CD backups, there is a lot of grey area in this topic ;)

video can't be as proof on 100% , cause i cant show at same time what on pc screen, keybard, dvd-player screen, ps1+psio. even if i can, next time you can say - "he used normal ps1 under table". or something like "i can do such video myself too"
so in this case the only one way to check it out - if someone get it and tell about it.
if we got something new interesting - we will show.

But you do have something interesting don't you. Show off what progress you have been talking about in the recent months. Who gives a shit if people find faults in your videos, at least you would have bothered keeping people up-to-date by releasing them.
That's the main problem with this project dude. Not giving people enough to go on, therefore creating more and more doubt in peoples minds.

Even Sega marketed the Saturn better than this lol

Hate to play devil's advocate but I think he does have a point here - even if he makes another video 'someone' is going to say "Hey, there's a glitch at 00.23s" and god knows what else... it always happens, let's be honest.

I DO agree that it still wouldn't hurt - but that's probably going to be the outcome. The progress is being reported over at DCSWAT.RU (I think that's what it's called!) The exact same site that brought us the Dreamcast SD Loader/Dreamshell - so it's not like this is coming out of nowhere. I doubt SWAT would let something like this run on his website if he thought it was a hoax. He knows his stuff - perhaps we could show him a bit of respect here... Cybdyn clearly wants some secrecy here, that's obvious in his attitude and posts... and why not? He wouldn't be the first to approach something like this, would he? Show too much and someone could quite easily steal his idea/work in the process... perhaps.

Rather than reduce this to name-calling - why doesn't a mod lock the thread for a few weeks until this supposed proto arrives and we can all see for ourselves. A lot can happen in a few weeks, and the way this is going the site may well lose a valuable member or two in the process. I say lock the thread until something tangible appears... if not, well, that's a whole other matter!

That's probably the best idea. Make it so the only people who can start a thread on PSIO are cybdyn or RetroJunkie when either of them have definitive proof that it works.

I can kinda see where cybdyn is coming from with regards to another video, people will find faults no matter what he shows but all I'd like to see is both of his hands on a PS1 controller in front of a screen controlling the action after the initialisation is done. All in one take.

Not too tricky to do, just balance the camera somewhere. As for people making claims that a PS1 is hidden somewhere. Do it on the floor with a wide-angle shot so people can see that nothing is hidden anywhere. No doubt it'd be a pain in the ass to sort this all out but it's an afternoons work and will put so many people's mind at ease.

I respect the need for privacy and the right to keep something as a hobby but what with all of the shit that has happened here with regards to PSIO in the past, it was foolish coming here with little evidence.

I've moved this thread to Sony Development since that's what the main subject of this thread is about :)

It's true that we'll know one way or the other in a few weeks, and hopefully it will turn out to be genuine (then I'll just want a similar device for the Sega Saturn, and Dreamcast :excitement:), and that there's a lot of pointless fighting in this thread, but I think the thread should be left open, for anyone to make any valid points. I'd personally like to know what major games cybdyn says are compatible with the PSIO at the moment (and what not so major games, such as Duke Nukem: Total Meltdown, and DN: Time to Kill - I'm a huge fan of DN games, I even think Duke Nukem Forever was under-rated by most people. Don't get me wrong, I don't like the game, it's below average in my eyes, but it's not one of the worst game ever, which so many people/magazines/online reviews seem to think), The Sentinel Returns, and Jumping Flash! 1 and 2, what other PS1 backup device projects exist, what homebrew exists for the PS1 (my brief search via Google revealed only a few, mostly uninteresting, items), and what import only PS1 games would be worth trying now.

All I'll say is that if this works out then the Chinese are going to have a field day with this!

And look on the bright side, at least they'll be moving up a generation with their clones :) - and both the PS1 and PS2 now have laser sparing devices, which is a blessing as it's the laser that usually gives out on a console. Now all we need is a Dreamcast and Saturn variation and we're set.

Good luck with the project Cybdyn.

What's up with the playstation logo? It looks like you changed it but I can't tell what it is. Cool to see some progress even if the video isn't good quality.
