You should've said. "Idem pour le Français!"

On-Topic though, I'm really happy this seems to turn out being legit. Can't wait for RJ's videos, and the eventual DCIO!

Testing is underway now and video being recorded. It will take longer than I expected to process and encode the video, but whatcha gonna do, aye?
Anyway, here's some updates on the games under test, I'll add more and give the people with non-events another chance at a different game.
There's a few more in the pipeline and if any of the below are non-event ones, I've PMed the user who requested it for another selection.

    1. Tekken 3: Freezes at "Namco Presents".
Sorry Fandangos, Tekken 3 was a bit of a non-event. I'm sure as the hardware advances compatibility will improve :)

    2. Dance Dance Revolution 5th Mix: Some in-game audio missing, otherwise functional.
Good news Carvax94, this one actually has audio where I was expecting there to be no audio, so it is playable!

    3. Final Fantasy VII: Seems to work well, no issues encountered.
Which is actually fantastic news for me (and Superg) at least since I don't mind a bit of the old Final Fantasy.

    4. Ridge Racer Type 4: Grand Prix doesn't work, Time Attack does, most audio missing.
Hope you don't enjoy versing other cars Borman... Only Time Attack seems to work at the moment, Grand Prix just hits a black screen and fails to recover.

    5. Legend of Dragoon: Freezes on "Sony Computer Entertainment America Presents".
Another non-event for this one. Guess I'll never know what it is about. BLUamnEsiac, just hold on a little while longer :)

    6. Metal Gear Solid / Integral: Seems to work well, no issues encountered.
Great news for Twimfy - It seems to work, and I've managed to get up the elevator successfully only to be shot and blown up by enemy soldiers. I've never been good at stealth, still it's the furthest I've gone in a Metal Gear Solid game ;)

    7. MediEvil 2: Works well until second encounter with ghost wearing top hat.
Tehgazza, do you hate the top hat ghost? I sure do! He stops me, freezing the game for 2-3 minutes then releasing me into some sort of loop at the second encounter. Game seems to hang at that point, I did avoid the ghost at one point, but I suspect there'd be other glitches along the way.

    8. Chrono Trigger: Ver 1.0 Seems to work well, no issues encountered. Ver 1.1 fails at intro FMV.
Sanni, you've got to listen to me and try playing Chrono Trigger 1.0, it seems to work well! Version 1.1 appears to flop at the FMV at the beginning of the game. 1.0 runs well and I played a good deal into it before falling into a portal!

    9. Star Ocean: The Second Story: Seems to work well, no issues encountered.
Kuze it's your lucky day! Star Ocean appears to work well, I gave it a try from both story sides for a few minutes and didn't experience anything out of the ordinary, except that I was transported to a strange world when playing as Claude!

    10. Tenchu: Stealth Assassins: Works well until FMV intro finished, then goes to a black screen.
Sorry about that PSPdemon, you can enjoy the FMV still though! Nothing like late 1990s FMV :)

    11. Resident Evil 1: Freezes at black screen after PlayStation license screen.
I gave this one a shot with a few different images to see if it was simply a bad dump, sadly nothing. Braders1986 I hope you can forgive me!

That's okay. ''It can't be helped''.

Appreciate the testing of these games. Gives us a god idea of what issues PSIO has and hopefully most of these can be resolved in the future.

Top stuff, dude. Can't wait for the video :)

Video, singular? Oh no, Each game gets a 5-10 minute video showing some gameplay... well if gameplay works that is...!
I was quite surprised when Final Fantasy VII started kicking along with no issues at all. I half expected it to be a troublesome one, but it just worked! :D
What's even more impressive is that a new revision is already underway so it should help with compatibility and such.

    * Stares at Tekken 3 encode *

This is going to take ages... to take this long takes Sega. Wait, wrong manufacturer... :p

Awesome rundown on the testing you've done, RJ. Really helps to provide an overall picture of where the psio is currently at with regards to compatibility. Glad to hear that star ocean, chrono trigger, and MGS are working well!

thanks a lot for this. hope the compatibility increases over time. at least we know what to expect.

btw as final fantasy vii works, i believe most squaresoft games will work fine too. that means a lot of jewels. do you have a chance to try other square games? (final fantasy VIII and IX would be most appreciated)

Nice to see testing has begun, thanks for the details RetroJunkie. Honestly, I think a LOT of testing is going to have to happen for PSIO before it's release-worthy.

Nice to see that the drama will go away. Is there time for more game requests? It would be interesting to see the compilation of Net Yaroze games from emuparadise, technically they all get loaded in the console RAM so it would be cool to see it tested.

I wouldn't mind revisiting the VIII and IX anyway, I know I played one of them relatively extensively... until I realised my disc 2 wouldn't work...

Step-by-step! I'm very impressed with the potential, fix the CD-XA issues and boom most games have audio, jiggle some code here and wham other titles load, etc. It's just a matter of time. Also I completely missed that Captain Awesome reference as well, I did watch a few episodes of Chuck, but it just wasn't for me :p

The only drama left is finding the time to test all these games ;) I'll see if I can get my hands on them!

Even though it didn't run, I appreciate that you took the time to give it a try. Here's hoping that it will work one of these days. :)

Beta/User testing as I said is needed, but that really can't happen in a big way until the hardware is finalized.

Yep, I don't care to see writing only on something I see as a farce. I need proof.

Here's another ten, while I don't have time to make videos for each of them.
Some are working and some are not! Just as you'd expect with a prototype :)

Videos of the first eleven are still encoding and uploading.
There's only so much I can do on an 80KB/sec upload with 1-2GB per video :p
And that's only if I manage to get it encoded with this poor little Core 2 Duo...
You'll be the first to know when the videos are live! :)

    12. Parasite Eve 1: Freezes at black screen after PlayStation license screen.
    Non-event!

    13. Parasite Eve 2:Freezes at black screen after PlayStation license screen.
    Non-event!

    14. Bloody Roar 1: Freezes at black screen after Hudson logo screen, can be skipped. Hammer Start. Missing BG music.
Non-event! Until I started button pressing, must skip an FMV on startup?

    15. Bloody Roar 2: Freezes at black screen after PlayStation license screen.
    Non-event!

    16. Soul Blade: In-game background audio missing, otherwise functional.
Second round gets really tough, really quick...

    17. Ehrgeiz: In-game background audio missing, otherwise functional.
These games are creepy without background music!

    18. Final Fantasy VIII: Seems to work well, no issues encountered.
All music, FMVs and such present.

    19. Final Fantasy IX: Seems to work well, no issues encountered.
I'm going to ask the PSIO team if we can just call it the SquarePSIOEnix

    20. Net Yaroze Compilation: Seems to work well, no issues encountered.
There are some crazy games on this thing.

    21. Crash Bandicoot 1:Seems to work well, no issues encountered.
Apparently some of the later Crash Bandicoots have issues, I'm more than happy to stick with the first one :)

Can you post up the results for Silent Hill please mate? Good to hear MGS works, shame about Tekken (though cybdyn seems to think it should work).

Also keen to hear about the ridge racers (1, rev, rage) aswell.

Good stuff so far though, cheers.

@RetroJunkie: Thanks for testing the ff 8 and 9. i am glad they are working well and thanks a lot for the time you spent testing.

if you would like to try some more square games, i might ask for threads of fate, brave fencer musashi, chrono cross and vagrant story. i assume most will work fine. of course i know you have a lot of games to try, these are just suggestions.

I'm testing Tekken 3 now with some other methods Cybdyn has pointed out.
Oh and Chrono Cross has already been tested, 1.0 works well, 1.1 freezes on the FMV intro.
I'm out of time to test any more this week, but will keep encoding and uploading as the week goes on.
But here's the first video just giving a rundown of the hardware involved on the test bench.

I see a lot of cases of "background audio missing", I guess the PSIO doesn't emulate the CD-ROM XA audio.

    Awesome to see though!
