Isn't it due out sometime in September? I know I'd like to have one. Though I was surprised that you must use the Component Video cable with a 480P enabled TV for PSP games. Seems rather silly to me that they don't support 480i for PSP games but only the media shit.

I agree with you Henners while it does seem to be a real improvement I was hoping for a lot more to be added to the package like a hard drive to make up for the always swapping memory sticks. On the other hand it looks worth the price but only if custom firmware comes in to action for me. I'm not a pirate btw I just like the enhancements they do to the console like skipping the start up and being able to add plug ins oh and homebrew it self :p I agree with you Barc0de the black looks miles better than the sliver

    The firmware is 3.60.

    ....

I wonder if that means it cant be downgraded, and therefore wont be able to run emus and ISOs...

In that case I can see the price of the remaining old PSPs skyrocketing

Nothing is unhackable. I doubt it will raise the price of old PSPs much, if at all. There are plenty of them on the shelves and in homes, 30million or so IIRC.

The new PSP model will take some time before an exploit is figured out I imagine. Initially you'll have no homebrew for it, but eventually perhaps. I'd plan on getting the Lite and keeping the older model for homebrew until the Lite gets it. They say the D-Pad is much improved which is very important to me.

Indeed, but if something is too difficult to hack then there wont be that many people hacking into it.

The PSP emu scene is popular becos even a n00b can hack that thing...

I don't know why people are saying it wont be hackable since its mostly all down to the firmwire which wont change much at all I guess the only thing to worry about is the motherboard. I reckon some time this year or early next at the latest it will be cracked.

I am a bit skeptical about the PSP lite. It surely looks much cheaper than the original - I also liked the extra weight/bulk.

The only issue I have is that the plastic they're using on the new case looks cheaper than the original. I'm not sure if that is correct or not, but it certainly looks that way.

It looks nice, but I don't think it offers any compelling reason for current PSP owners to go out and purchase the new one.

I also don't necessarily think that's what they were going for either, but it will be more appealing for ongoing new demand.

+1 on hating the Silver, it looks cheap.

Looks very nice and i also hate the silver will look better in black.

Will probably be buying one as the only PSP in my house is not really mine and was thinking about buying a PSP for myself anyway.

Whenever I hear of a firmware hack for the new version, I might finally go pick one up. I want to play SNES games on the go. Wipeout for the PSP looks pretty awesome, too.

My main reason for wanting the new model is to play games like Mega Man Power Up, MegaMan Maverick Hunter X and the Castlevania Dracula X remake with a better dpad and on my big LCD screen. Seeing how they were assholes and decided to finally release Dracula X on PSP rather than PS2.

I also want the PSP for emus, since theres almost no games for this console that I care about...

I talked with some people from the scene, and well the last cracked firmware is 3.40. Plus the production of the original PSP is already over, and while both version will retail at the same MSRP theres the posibility that old PSPs may go for less than the new ones.

So, should I get an old one when the price goes down (and theres still some units available)? or should I wait for the new one (and hope theres an easy way to crack it)?

    BTW, read this:

Downgraders, homebrew enablers, and other exploits will not be able to run on the new PSP's Firmware which is 3.60, early tests find out that the current "Pandora's Battery" exploit is incompatible. The Undiluted Platinum modification chip also will not be able to be installed because of the new motherboard layout.
