It won't install apparently. It's just a bug that makes the system think that 3.52 is the newest firmware.
Target in the U.S. is doing a promotion allowing you to get the PSP2000/Daxter/Family Guy/1GB for $169, the same price as the standalone PSP2000 :dance::dance:
I just realized, I have a replacement plan on my PSP that's still good! I think I'm gonna go have it replaced with the Slim model. =) I know I'll lose homebrew for alittle while, but to be honest it never was a huge deal to me. Mainly I want the new model for when Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles comes out so I can play on the TV and with a better D-Pad. Plus the replacement plan dies off in april anyway, might as well use it now!
Indeed: We are proud to present the first custom firmware for the PSP Slim, and the first custom firmware that runs using a 3.XX IPL (3.60) 3.60 M33 for PSP Slim has all the features of 3.52 M33, except the 1.50 kernel support, as that kernel doesn't work properly on psp slim (hardware problems, screen problems). 3.60 M33 will load homebrew from GAME, GAME150 and GAME360 directories, but all will be executed with 3.60 kernel. This mean that some homebrews done specifically for the 1.50 kernel cannot work on 3.60 M33. However, the adaptation of code to 2.XX+ kernels is not difficult, and homebrew developers can port their applications to work in these firmwares. Included with the release is the M33 sdk for programmers.
I did exchange it, I haven't hacked it yet. The new model is pretty nice. I'd agree the controls are better than before and overall its a nice improvement. But what I really want are the Component Video cables. That and Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles.
Definitely better, unless you count that you can't (yet atleast) use 1.5 kernel homebrew. The PSP is indeed nicely lighter, thinner, brighter, more responsive controls, TV out that I don't have cables for yet ='( and does load games noticably faster. It's still not perfect, but definitely better than before. There's still issues where the face buttons could be better, but the D-Pad omg, so much better. I really noticed it in Mega Man Maverick Hunter X when doing the Hadoken. On the old model it was always pretty fucking random if the move would work. On the new model, damn near every single try it worked. Honestly it's worth it for the D-Pad improvement alone, but you throw in TV-out, faster UMD loading, lighter weight, slimmer profile and you can't go wrong. Like I said the only bummer is that you can't run all the homebrew, but you can run ISOs and probably any non-kernel mode homebrew. Sadly the no kernel homebrew means you don't get SNEStyl 4.2 ME which is faster than the usermode version. Also I'm not sure if theres usermode versions of the CPS1 and CPS2 and NeoGeo emulators. If there are I'm not sure they are as fast. But NES is fine, and I think atleast one of the Genesis emulators.
Can you tell if the LCD is actually faster than the old one? (Like, when watching movies especially, you would get ghosting effects as people walked across the screen.) Stuff like that... A fast-refresh LCD would solve that, but I haven't heard if that's the case or not...
From what I've heard the ghosting is supposed to be about the same, but I haven't looked hard enough to notice any ghosting myself. On the old one I would notice it in emulators of classic 2D games, but since I haven't hacked the slim yet I can't tell so easily. So sorry, I can't really say wether ghosting is as bad as I personally haven't paid close enough attension to notice.
Bummer! and kinda stupid from sony since if people use their PSP for emus and original games is okay, but no emus and pirated games? thats profit lost to piracy...
Well from what I've read and my lack of noticing it so far, it would seem ghosting has been reduced. Like I said though I'll notice it better when I play something old school. I know on my PC's LCD monitor there is a background pattern in Ninja Gaiden 1 that really blurrs annoying when you scroll. I think it did that on the original PSP too. Still going to be awhile before I bother to hack mine though.
I got my Component Video cable today. The borders in PSP games are pretty huge indeed. But... on my LCD the ZOOM function makes it full screen and cuts off about 2 to 4 pixels on each side of the screen, so it looks very nice. The XMB was full screen though and I haven't tried the UMD but I expect that will be too. All in all I'm quite happy. Seeing MegaMan Maverick Hunter X on my LCD was quite nice.
I could try but they'd probably be shitty unless I can find the other camera. This guy took some pictures though: http://img208.imageshack.us/my.php?image=image0411xc7.jpg http://img413.imageshack.us/my.php?image=image0421lg9.jpg
So who wants to donate one to PtoP so I can record video easier then my current method (which isnt working out so well lol)? Haha
