Games would have to be coded to support the USB HDD interface, and I doubt all (or any) of them are. There's been no announcement of any sort. It looks cool. It's tiny. People will pay more for it than the older version, with or without the harddrive capability.
My guess is they will drop the price of the older model around November for both the Holidays and to clear out all the backstock and then drop the price of the new model at the next E3.
Well, if I'm not mistaken HDD support is implemented through an IRX (driver) file that's loaded from the BIOS, so it is not impossible to implement a transparent interface if I'm not mistaken.
Re: ps two not a lot actually: -socom 2 -FFXI -Omega Strain - 2 or 3 others. but in the future , alot of games will use it for downloads or to save some loading time. im talking about: -GT4 -Metal Gear Solid 3 -Killzone -splinter cell 3 (certainly for online download..if its not a feature only for xlive.) -among others.. GT4, kill zone and MGS3 are two big trademark, and they aren't released yet.... so why i couldn't use an option of the game that isn't released yet only because i've paid more to have a ps2 on slim-fast?
I kinda read that the HDD might connect to those connectorish points on the bottom of the PStwo right and there is little nothy thing that looks like where it could connect up. would kind of mean it's going to use the stand though. :smt014
Biohazard outbreak uses the HDD too. Am I the only one that thinks the PStwo looks like a PCengine duo? PS. What does genjin mean?
PS2 Games (NTSC|U/C) that use the Official Sony HDD: - Final Fantasy XI - Final Fantasy XI: Chais of Promathia - Resident Evil Outbreak - Resident Evil Outbreak 2 - World Soccer Winning Eleven 7 International - World Soccer Winning Eleven 8 International - Socom 2 - Syphon Filter: Omega Strain Rumoured to use the HDD - Gran Turismo 4: The Drive of your life - Ace Combat 5: The Unsung War - KillZone - Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas - Kingdom Hearts 2 - Final Fantasy XII - Devil May Cry 3 - Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater - Splinter Cell 3 --- Not much, but on the Japan there are lots of games that use the HDD. Some of these games were released in US as well, but their HDD options were taken away.
well, don't forget their hdd was released way earlier than ours! i just hope the hdd will not (if there's one released for the pstwo) look like the japanese one...
I f I was going to put one in my glove compartment would I need a HDD for GT4? Is it only for accessing or would it need to be hooked up to a netsource? I could just picture driving around looking for a hotspot, :smt043
The pstwo does not look like a beautiful Pc engine duo,it does however look like a later revision of the Phillips CDI,can't remember the number 410 or something???
I'm not too terribly worried about the (apparrent) lack of HDD support - after all, aside from FFXI, Sony's support for the HDD has been meagre at best, and I can really see them saying, "You know what, hell with this, this peripheral is going nowhere" and just dumping it like a latter day 64DD. That being said, I'm sure that they will unveil new versions of the Multitap and probably some way for existing users of FFXI to use their HDD - maybe an external housing the drive can slide into and then hook into some port on the system. I have to say that like Madhatter, I am also intrigued as to the possibilities of a much easier method of playing imports on this new machine. I'm currently in the market for a new PS2, and I think I might wait around to see if some inventive person or Hong Kong company renders my fliptop case mod obsolete or not.
Confirmed: No Hdd For the Pstow. sony said ''those who whant to pay for a hdd are hardcore gamers and they already have the ps2. '' that' stupid... but intelligent at the same time. first , the future of the ps2 hdd was compromised (and his future is now more compromised than ever. ) and sony wouldn't do another hdd in this foggy time. like GSL said earlier, the ps2 hdd is a bit like the 64dd , that's sad.... but hey , that's how the market world work.
There's very few legitimate uses for any console HDD. Other than the PS2Linux package, the only other reason many ppl are gonna use it is for HDDloader. Same with Xbox, the only real uses for the HDD are GentooX/Xebian, EvoX and XBMC. Games companies seem too used to making games for 'normal' consoles, that don't have HDD support. And it doesn't help that many features requiring a HDD are removed from western versions, such as online support/downloads. Wonder how long till DMS or someone crack the PStwo? I give 'em 6weeks after release till imports/backups are running. Oh, and personally, I think PStwo looks cool. Still wouldn't get one though.
i know a great name for the new pstwo. as soon as they release a screen for it (and since ps2 is trying to be a computer) it will look like a palm pilot. so the new name should be playstation pilot. and in the commercials they have that same little girl that whispers like for "gamecube" and "Ea games" what i think the commercial will be like check e-mail, surf the web, watch dvds, listen to music, play games the ps pilot brings all this to you and more, and did we mention...portable? PORTABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (little girl whispering)ps pilot since this thing can play all psx titles and ps2, and dvds-making it portable (and thinner than psone BTW, would be cool) but i bet it costs about as much as a palm pilot. :smt043 :smt043
I think the wispering is all electronic sound effects I'd not be suprised if there is no actuall girl to it anayway.
