Neither rare nor uncommon I'd say. I got my mint jpn copy for 8$, the pal version can be caught for not more than 10$. Of course that doesn't change anything on the simple fact that the game itself is still really uncommon and fantastic. Amazingly unique style and highly enjoyable game experience, every psx owner with a weakpoint for unusual games should have it.
I bought my PAL copy for £20.. it goes for between £15-£30 depending on condition and if it comes with manual and posters, on ebay.co.uk! Really is a fantastic game though.
Vib Ribbon? ive seen some in charity shops round here going £2 a pop. thats the highest and lowest they charge for games. every game is £2 they sell. Got Panzer Dragoon Saga and Shenmue £2 each from there. How rare would people say Shenmue is? wikipedia puts its rarity down to poor sales.
I would say uncommon bordering on rare. The JPN version, not so much. I never found it for sale in my area when it was released.
One of my fav unusual PSX titles is Syndicate Wars, a great pc port. I haven't seen it in stores since its release.
I played this one once, and really didn't like it. I like the fact that it's a 2D platformer, but it was just awful. Do I need to give it a second chance? Is it really that rare?
It's really that rare, but it polarizes. There are indeed quite some people who think it's pretty average if not boring. I never had the chance to try it out myself yet. The same with Gaia Seed: Most owners I know believe it's absolutely overrated, especially for what it's going for.
Crap games are rarer than you think. Sony would take returns on unsold stock as credit against a publishers next title. Lots of games that were unsold met with the crusher. The credit was only the royalty paid on the game but that was often better than clogging the distribution chain with unsold games or having to sell at bargin bin prices.
as well in hard/book offs. found mine for 3 bucks. so for how much goes that Hermie Hoppperhead JPN outside japan?
About 15-20$ complete. And Klaymen Klaymen is still on my must-have list, hope to pick it up someday for less than the yahoo standard of ~3000jpy.
Theres a few games that were released in those huge PS1 cases that they also released again in a regular jewel case ( Resident Evil comes to mind). The big box versions of some of those games are probably considered rare, right?.
Yeah, long box releases are usually considered a collectible, and they never, as far as I know, had any reprints outside their original run. There are a good few PAL releases that used 4 disc covers (Dunno if this was 'cause of some CD Cover shortage or something, as PAL single and double disc releases use the same type of proprietary covers Japanese releases use). One game that comes to mind that has two cover variations in Europe is Suikoden 1 (one being the single disc, regular cover, and the other being the 4 disc cover variation)
Longbox releases are collectible (and cool) but some of it's games had lots of reprints. Some even had reprints on different longbox cases (clear plastic, cardboard, ridged plastic) and on cd jewel cases (both normal and Greatest Hits) Check for more info: http://www.game-rave.com/psx/playstation_perfect_guide/long_box/index.htm
thanks got both for about 3 bucks each. btw: what are rough oversea prices for following semi raries: dodonpachi 3 wonder strider hiryu 1&2 x-multipy & image fight toaplan shooting battle 1 bishi bashi 1 bishi bashi 2 bishi bashi 3 harmful park gradius gaiden
I noticed Kitchen Panic has graduated to the "glass cabinet" section in Galaxy and it is one of those games that you don't see very often.... ... it's also largely ordinary so not worth the 8000 yen+ it's started going for. LSD + soundtrack CD - seems to be getting rarer too (awful dream simulator thing) Night raid seems to have vanished from most places too - or i just don't get to see it i guess (i have had it since it came out, just noticed that it seems to have gone) Elemental Gearbolt attache case edition was a US games competition give away for press - there's only 20 i think. I know someone scored a cheap one from Aki and i've seen another one pop up there too.
Agree about Night Raid, I had a hard time to find it in Tokyo. The game was released on late 2002 in Japan...so maybe a low print. It is far rarer than Gaia Seed in Akiba shops.
