I too think of it as like new, not new, because it has been powered on a couple of times.

The power on button has been used, so makes console used too. I think how little or how much or why maybe does not matter, it has been used for some purpose. Meaning it's been used. ^_^

This is fucking ridiculous. There is a video in each auction showing the unit in question going through it's boot sequence, that is all, so to all intents and purposes the item is new. The vid is there for YOUR benefit as it proves the console is working and that it won't arrive at it's destination DOA. Now, which would you prefer, a new machine which you can see quite clearly works or an untested unit that could land on your doorstep that's bollocksed? I know which of the 2 options my money would go on.

If brand spanking untouched by human hands is the only way you want one of these consoles you're in for a rude awakening because they just don't exist and haven't for over a decade. Deal with it.

You're missing the point by some spectacular margin. If this was 1999 or 2000, there'd be no need for a demo vid of the item working because the item would come with a receipt, therefore if it went tits up you'd have the warranty to send the item back either to SEGA or the place where it was initially purchased. 10+ years down the line you don't have that privilege, it's strictly 'buyer beware'.

If you bought one of SirGadgets units and it didn't work you could return it and get a full refund because it's sold as working, there's video proof. If there wasn't a video and it turned up dead on arrival you wouldn't be able to claim a penny back because the listing wouldn't be able to state - as it does now - that the item is working, it would just say 'untested, sold as seen with no returns and no warranty implied'. You could be spending thousands on a dud. How you can't see that that benefits you staggers me to be honest.

As for the brand new console from a shop being tested before you can buy it argument you're just being silly. If you buy something from a shop you get a receipt, that receipt gives you the ability to either return and exchange or return and refund in the event of buying a faulty item. I hate to have to repeat myself here but when you're buying from an internet auction site you don't get that luxury, you pay your money and you take your chance. Anything that can be used as proof that reduces the chance of getting an item that's dead or broken can only be for the good, no?

If SirGadget had lied and said the unit had never been tested you'd be ok with that but because he's honest and has integrity he's being called all sorts of names. You have to remember that there never were and there are now no 'brand new sealed' Dreamcasts of any type in any iteration. Anyone selling one in such a condition has sealed it themselves and if you're happy to spend the stupid sums these things go for without seeing the thing working you must have money to burn. Or be incredibly naive. Or possibly both.

I don't get what's so funny? If you believe that there are units out there that have never been plugged in to check that they work then that's up to you, but the reality is that in the unlikely event such an item does exist you'd never know it from one that had been, would you? Be honest?

Let's put it another way. Which seller is the most trustworthy, the one who says the unit has been tested or the one who says it hasn't? Remember, the internet is not a level playing field filled with likeminded folk, it's also a refuge for fantasists, thieves, liars and scammers who will say and do anything by any means to separate you from your money.
