Thanks. The next show has now been filmed. Just waiting for some quiet so that I can do the voice over sections.
No, not at all. I need my wife and son to be out of the house when filming those sections. Recently they’ve always been around so its hard to film. Same problem when doing the voice overs. This is why the last volume took so long to come out. The good news is that the next show does have an intro so you’ll all be able to see my ugly mug again
I think you misunderstand me. I'm talking about the intro section - you know, the part where there's an animation with some music, and then it says "Retro Core". You used to have a section like that before you got into the games proper. Or maybe I misunderstand you.
oh, you mean the opening "credits"? That will be back at some point. I'm working with some new video editing software that I want to use for the intro.
Retro Core 4 Volume 9 is now on line for your viewing pleasure!! In volume 9 I take a look at the fantastic Yu Suzuki Game Works book as well as the Dreamcast GDROM that comes with it. Not only that but I put the Saturn and Dreamcast versions of Power Drift side by side. just how good does the Saturn version look? I'm sure you'll be very surprised. Mega Drive shooting fans will Enjoy Heavy Unit. One of the first shooters for the system and a really tough one at that. Nice episode. It was cool to see the different versions of Power Drift side by side. Are you sure that the Saturn version doesn't run at 60fps? I have 2 other games in the Sega AGES collection, After Burner II and Space Harrier, and I'm fairly certain that they run at full 60fps. It would be strange for Power Drift not to run at the same speed.
Thanks everyone . As for Power Drift running at 60fps, I don't think it does. Just looking at it after playing the Dc version you can see it's not as smooth. Still, at 30fps it's still very good. Power Drift is a very heavy game on the CPU unlike Afterburner 2 or Outrun. Before The Saturn release there was no arcade quality version of Power Drift for the home. The Amigo version was probably the closest graphically but even that was miles off. The PC Engine version was probably the best audio wise since that used more arcade speech than any other version.
Hm... I guess that's a pretty good reason to get the DC version over the Saturn version, then. The advantage of the Saturn for me is that I already have it set up over RGB on my PVM. I have a SCART cable for my DC too, but it's a slight inconvenience to switch the cables (it's connected via VGA right now). Space Harrier at least looks and plays pretty much exactly like the DC (Shenmue) version, if you're using the 3D controller anyway.
Hot on the heels of Retro Core 4 Volume 9 comes volume 10, not two weeks later. I'm hoping to bring the shows out on a more constant scheduled from now on. In this show I take a look at Double Dragon on the GameBoy, marvel VS Capcom 2 on the Dreamcast. One of the best 2D fighter of it's time IMO and the awful looking but great sounding shooter, Verytex on the Mega Drive / Genesis, YouTube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLtfLcdPgUQ Official site coming later.
i will give brutal and crushing criticism once i've seen it. edit: seen it, again decent episode, i agree on the dreamcast controller comment. verytex looks like my kind of shooter, reminds me of blazing lasers and other old school shooters.
