Some nice ideas there, Johnny. I thing System revisions for something like the PC Engine would be great. That is one hell of a confusing system to buy for.
I see you point probably pricing guidelines would be one, gotchas when buying system/common faults (ie. MegaCDs and PC Engine CDs units can be hit and miss given their age), best accessories as mentioned above, betas/unreleased games of significance, shite of the system, your top 5/10...
Thanks. And yes, people new to the PC Engine can easily get confused. Different systems and revisions, different CD drives, system cards... I don't know if it's possible, but what about a system add-ons exclusive episode?
I'd need someone to loan me the hardware and software for that ;( it would be a great episode though. Hmm, interesting point about the common faults. Kind of what people should look out for when buying hardware. Most definitely. When I got in to PC Engine I was completely lost. Such as what's the difference between the core grafx and core grafx 2? Absolutely nothing as it turns out.
Really great video about arcade vertical shooters, with stuff i've never seen. The one with fighter jets and helicopters in space is hilarious! I saw the same fighting stick on CGR recently, was really curious to see the internals. Your initial reaction was spot on, couldn't stop laughing as well. Still, very nice quality overall.
Great stuff Yakumo. Nice to see one show dedicated to such a great machine. I grabbed a Duff (can't get enough of that wonderful Duff!) and some snacks and settled down for a really entertaining 40 minutes. Nice voice over for "Sega Mega Drive" mad me chuckle. Nice selection of games as well. Would have been nice to see a comparison with a Genesis and PAL consoles and maybe some more examples of the game Artwork. Why does the Japanese box art have to be so much better.
Hehe, Wish I could get some real Duff in Japan. Best I can do is the T-Shirt I'd like to do a comparison between western and Japanese MD games but the thing is that I don't actually own any so I'd have to resort to emulation. Something I don't want to do with Retro Core (Besides arcade stuff). In the future though it could be a possibility.
Great episode Yakumo. The hardware part was very good and i liked how you mentioned the system cards, without going into much detail, as the focus of this episode wasn't the CD-ROM² system. Also really enjoyed how you selected unknown games, including a couple of weird exclusives. Such a great way to discover games. Legend of Valkyrie was the only one i knew and one of the few games i had the chance to play on a real PC Engine.
Cheers Johnny. When I first got in to the PC Engine I was so lost with all the reversions of hardware. Were they all the same? Did others play different games? It was very confusing so I tried to make it simple and clear for everyone to understand. About featuring games which are not so common, well I do that to keep interest. I just saw the new Game Sack SNES video and while it was good I really was bored when the Mario, Zelda, Metroid and Donkey Kong sections were on. We've seen those a million times. They don't even need a mention in my opinion.
Great episode mate, I'll repost it when I get a minute. So many hardware revisions on the PC Engine, I still have the DUO you sent me many moons ago, it's due some cap replacements on the audio and a new lens, still pays fine apart from that somehow... I think the IFU set up is still the sexiest So we've had Hucards reviews are you going to do CDs next? Keep it up Dude, it's become a ritual Saturday/Sunday mornings to watch BOTP and RC, thank you!
It's really confusing, as there are so many hardware models and revisions. The system cards makes it even more problematic. I think this was one of the reasons they never tried to release the console on other regions. Anyway, you probably know this site already, but this compatibility guide is very good: http://pcenginefx.com/main/nec_compatibility_guide.html Also a topic from 2006: http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/pc-engine-system-cards.11432/ Exactly. And i'm sure it makes it more enjoyable to make these videos, as you probably are discovering new games as well. PS: Check this place, if you haven't already: http://www.pcengine.co.uk/
PC Engine and a Consolized MVS have always been my two most wanted consoles. Made a thread a few months back asking what could go wrong with a Duo. It's an intimidating venutre...plus the cost Collector Leeches are Bleeding Japan's PC Engine game suppily dry.
I wouldn't say they are bleeding it dry but they are sure responsible for the massive increase in prices.
