If it's a scam they can do nothing with serial numbers :s

But it looks strange:

- link to sega.jp but no japanese version for the app form
- no image showing where exactly the S/N is.
- Sega Direct link, which is supposed to close this month? (or was it may?)
- link to play-asia?
- and what about a mail address being consolenumber@user.dreamcast.com using google mail? Not very useful/professional.

The addition of the serial number form doesn't really have to do with anything. If this isn't an official page, then it was probably placed there to make the form seem authentic.

Also, the domain can still be registered to Sega. That doesn't stop someone from compromising the server (which the domain points to) and adding their own content.

The best course of action is to send Sega of Japan an email asking whether or not they authorized the page.

...also you can't buy anything Dreamcast at PlayAsia anymore. It seems they only got like a few items left. Same for SegaDirect.

- I assumed that it was meant to pave the way for new/re-releases, but it's just odd that they removed the PlayAsia link now.

It's bull, Sega Japan has nothing to do with this and here's the plain and obvious reasons why.

1. The site is all in English ! (biggest and so obvious that you shouldn't need another reason).

2. Adds. Sega Japan NEVER use adds for anything apart from in house teams or Japanese affiliates. Never in their life would a big company like Sega want Play Asia or Google adds.

3. The mail addresses are very odd. Sega don't use these. I know because I7 get many official mails from Sega Japan.

4. Sega Direct links are pointless because it closes this month.

I think this is just a way to get peoples mail addressees for spam :nod:

I am not sure anymore, nothing does seem to come together here. There is no info on what this is about.

I just hunted down most of my posts on various forums to stop this nonsense.


- If it's legitimate, they have to provide more information. It is possible that the website and the service was still under construcion but why publish it if it doesn't do anything yet ?


We brought their service down in less than ten hours. If it's legitimate, than they now know how many of us are out there.

 

Not to mention the spelling (temporally is not even close to temporarily).

Regarding the link to the page about the dreamcast, some of the links don't work (note the calendar link on the right side. It works on the sega.jp site). Like the Shenmue.com site, it's probably a backup.

 

These little details (like the spelling stuff you've mentioned, or even the google ads) didn't really bother me. - What's really disturbing is the whole picture. There's nothing that seems to make sense.

SEGA Japan would not be hosting this site on a shared server in Florida.

 

Am I wrong or is this trying to get everyone who signed up to communicate with each as some kind of DC focused email based chat?

Also the Play-Asia link has been removed.
