Well, now he certainly will get shut down. I've read that quite a few people have sent emails to SOJ/SOA and even SOE.

Also the admins of the official SOA boards are looking into this and I am sure that we will get to hear some official statement once the guys at SOJ had a chance to look into this.


If he wanted attention he got it. I just think the prize was kinda high.

 

DCEvoCE: Taking into account the arrogant way in which the lawyers office contracted by SOE acts (I know this by myself), I don't expect something very different from SOJ.

They will try to contact the person behind the registration, ask him to transfer the domain in X days to SEGA and scare him about taking "possible" legal measures as compensation for the damages. Surely, the last part will be nothing but a threat, but will help to get its objetive easily and sooner.

 

By the way, something which could case him REAL problems are the Google and PlayAsia banners. That means some kind of profit and that's something which lawyers don't like... Nor a little.

Whatever the reasons were the guy had for setting up a site like this, the thought about him getting some nice mails by SOJ/SOA is a bit of relief. This whole thing cost me an arm and a leg.

 

Let us know the increase in spam mail you get. Hopefully the smart people have a seperate account for signing up to these things, that way you don't up up with hundreds of "Pleas3 h3r in bed - Buy h3r a Dreamcasto", "Small dik? A dreamcast is the answer", "Hot stock tip, will go wild, needs a dreamcast" spam emails.

a lot of things tell me that this is a big fake, but until sega talks...

 

It looks like he is checking this forum or any others, because every time someone point out that something is strange, then it change or disapier.

There's a new update and the form is up again... Giving a clue about the origin of the person behind this.

First of all, the whole form is taken from phpBB3 and reveals that's configured as "en-GB", whereas it should be either "ja" or "en-US" if it had a real Japanese origin, Right? At least, many Japanese pages adapted for western visitors use the last one as default.

That matter and the use of "@user.dreamcast.com" addresses makes me remember the style which Dreamarena (the European equivalent to the Japanese Dricas or the American Dreamcast Network) employed for the user email accounts. Then, they employed subdomains based on countries. For example "@uk.dreamcast.com" for UK dreamers and "@es.dreamcast.com" for Spanish ones. This style also was used for Game Mail addresses all over the World, but using "gm" instead. For example: negora@gm.dreamcast.com. Maybe has he based it on them?

Sega doesn't need to disprove it. There's no way Sega of anywhere would allow this to be handled the way it's being handled. If you reread the points that have already been made, you'll understand why. If this was official, they'd most certainly have their own mail service. The login section seems to forward you to an official page, but it's just a PHP redirect that points to GMail.

The form is down again. Incase anyone missed it, it now lets you know that the serial number will be your email address (serial@user.dreamcast.com). It probably wasn't good to register with a made up or blank serial if this turns out to be something that you might want to participate in (even though it's not official).

I think the site keeps getting disabled because the guy responsible for this is individually reviewing each of the applications.

 

saturn_worship: Well, that's true. But humans have something called "common sense" and this is what we all have to apply on this case. There're enough details to think that's fake rather than real. Don't you agree?

Read the last paragraph, four posts up, for a suggestion. Other than that, your guess is as good as any of ours. Hopefully the person(s) behind this tells us what's going on.
