He has an account on the neo geo forums , also he has a youtube acount under the same name.

I say we just get rid of him, mental disorder or not, he's nothing but trouble. This isn't society, this is the internet, and he's scamming people for money, so who cares whether he's on the autism spectrum or not?

Also, I believe we should find out what other forums he has accounts on, and also spread around his name and known aliases to other known forums and sites where stuff is sold (gaming related stuff, the type of things sold here).

 

dude just type his name into google he goes by the same name on other forums and on youtube.

thats how i was able to ask another forum member if he was willing to sell his wideboy 64 agb , long story short he said no still looking though.

 

I'm aware, lol, I've also used that method to skim for contact information before, haha. I was just messing with a guy I knew from another forum, he was being a troll in IRC so I sent him his cell phone number and a picture of himself.

We're on good terms now, considering we're both staff on a site, and we started a forum together.

 

how about since its a older system we start perserving the discs by digial means and stop selling these for retirement

I'm not accusing you of a crime (yet). It is just a bit harsh to condemn someone for making reproductions when it was something you appeared to be interested in doing yourself.

 

im interested in preservation not lining my pockets with gold. these gdrs will not survive for many more years i give it 10 years max as we are on year 10 or 11 of when they was produced. once they die we wont beable to recreate them.

i have no condemnation for anyone making reproductions thats the witch hunt for Raylyd which your pertaking in.

remove the artificial profits from this and you will have a true love of the console.

 

You don't get preservation from burning GD-R onto GD-R nor NR onto NR. Burning an old beta onto old media is still going to fail at around the same time because they are around the same age.

The only way that plan would work if you're burning an old beta onto new media, which won't happen given as GD-R and NR have been out of production for some time.

Even when you back up a CD-R contents onto another CD-R, you don't back it up to an old CD-R, that would be pointless as it would probably be close to death regardless - you do it to a brand new CD-R.

Your plan helps no one but the scammers etc.

 

No matter what happens you can't ever let him sell again. Ever. And if someone is caught playing middle man to circumvent this they should suffer the same fate he has.

Some people seem to support him but even if they like having him around he is clearly in the wrong on this issue. To say he doesn't understand doesn't make it better that makes it worse because that means it will surely happen again.

We don't give drivers licenses to the blind and say it is ok that they run over people because it isn't their fault. By the same token you can't let someone who doesn't know that it is wrong to sell copies or lie about it sell here. You need to mark him as you wanted him to mark the tainted discs.

He needs a banner of some type that states the now obvious situation for those who come by after this is old news. Perhaps a footer in evey post and PM that he sold copies of betas as originals. If all that is done then most shouldn't have a problem with him staying. If anything it will serve as a scarlet letter type reminder to others.

 

He seems to be a helpful and valued member, so I voted No.

People say not to treat Ray any differently due to his condition and I totally agree that this should be the case but, this self same situation has arisen in the past with a respected member of the community. Unless I am mistaken, no further action was taken although said member was proven to have tried to deceit other members for financial gain :shrug:

If we are talking about treating all members equally then surely that should result in equal punishment?!

I voted against the ban in this instance because I feel until now (let it be known that I do not, under any circumstance, condone what has happened) Ray has been a very kind, helpful and informative member of the community.
I have used his knowledge and also his services various times over the past year or so and cannot fault him in anyway on this side of things.

I really don't think this situation is as cut and dry as ban or do not ban; I don't even think a marketplace ban would be fitting. Instead I think a ban on selling any software would suffice.

If we look back over the whole situation, Ray never gained financially through this (both ebay auctions ended in PP claim-backs and in the sale via the forums he gave the Shenmue discs free with the system disc).

In my opinion releasing the data after claiming the money back is almost as bad as what Ray did.

What a bloody mess!!!
