Scammer warning: Raylyd caught selling copies of GDR (dreamcast) betas

God help the economy when raylyd gets his hands on some proper paper and a quality printer.

Wonder if he'd take the same defensiveness and try to say he's the one being scammed when people finds out the notes he's passing are counterfeit.

I believe that at a minimum he should be banned from the marketplace. The fact is that he has caused real monetary damage and problems to people. While his condition should probably be taken into account to some degree it does not mitigate that damage.

There is also the point to make that by giving him a totally free pass in itself causes damage to the reputation to this site.

As much as this doesn't deserve a whole site ban, I think it does deserve a marketplace ban. What he did was wrong, whether he knew it or not. He should be treated as an equal, not using his disabilities to come between the judgement of the moderators, Treat him as any other member and do what is right.

The video is not really that insulting, in fact the comment at the end of the rant sums it up "I'm a terrible human being" as it demonstrates how improper his rant was and the case is similar here.

The matter of fact is, if he is to be banned for scamming, then why isn't everybody who has ever scammed and been caught banned? Inspuration nicked a few hundred from someone for a kit. Somebody here scammed Borman for an xbox, but he was never banned? Why? because he ordered him a new xbox? fair enough. but ray was forced to refund the two people he sold these to in theory he has also ''Bought the buyer an xbox''

I think a keyword is that ray was forced to refund those two people, not that he did it in good faith.

 

How is the case here similar? He wilfully defrauded multiple buyers and when called on it either skirted the issue or just downright lied. He apparently doesn't realize that selling duplicates of games is wrong but knows the ins and out of taking apart and repairing and modding various consoles? You must think we're all as fucking thick as he's making himself out to be.

You normally find in cases like this that what's been discovered is just the tip of the iceberg. If he'd not been called on it how many more suckers would he have stolen from?

 

Well when you're right you're right but the case is still similar. Scamming or fraud requires willful deception thus it is wrong to accuse raylyd of this in these circumstances, just as it is wrong for him to have produced replicas.

I only know of the two shenmue clones from ebay which got chargebacks (1 from Fatalist 1 from Kenseiken), the clone from this sale to dreamcast_zone and there could be others. I don't tjhink we will ever know how deep the rabbit hole goes, but for now at least the best we can do is to blacklist the titles we do know about, check his ebay feedback for more and hopefully he will state if there are others and how many.

With all due respect to everyone here, how is burning GD-R media using a GD-R writer and selling the copies not deceptive? Is there any conceivable reason to burn beta material to GD-R for the purpose of resale that isn't deceptive or with intent to defraud? Like what,"Rayltd's friendly GD-R Backup service"?

 

To be fair, Im fairly certain the guy who scammed me has been run off of many, many sites at this point, which was deserved. The only reason I got anything was due to the effort of many, many people.


Unfortunately for Raylyd, his original disks values are totally gone now, with the disks being dumped, and Id be curious to know if they were dumped by someone who received a refund. If so, thats not cool either, as crappy as what Raylyd did.

That is your opinion, and you should be careful to state it as such. From my perspective he's plenty guilty of "wilful deception", but I've made clear my reasons on that already.

If I was raylyd I'd be in this thread addressing every concern raised with as much humility, contrition and regret as I could muster. Conspicuous by absence, tbh.
