Ok I know there has been a lot of criticism about how the pre-order was handled, but I really felt the need to say a few things about everybodymaking a big fuss over it. I know he said he was going to post here about when it was going to be going up for pre-sale,, but I also bookmarked (and regularly checked) his website and facebook to be sure I wouldn't miss out on anything important. I mean, this forums is by no means an official outlet for news about the products he offers. I don't think I've ever seen a post here regarding every time an everdrive is back in stock. One thing for sure, though. He is REALLY involved with his products. I swear, on just about every review I've read on many different websites, he's there answering questions about his stuff. And he obviously puts a lot of time and effort into all of his work. He made one mistake. He's already apologized for it and explained he wasn't ready for it. I would have thought the popularity would be similar between the mega everdrive and sd2snes, so I can understand that after it took more than 3 days to sell all the mega everdrive pre orders, that he thought there would be no major problems with the sd2snes. People make mistakes. He's said he's gonna handle it differently next time. He's apologized for not posting the time and date for the pre order here. This wasn't the only batch that will ever be available. Just calm down and relax. He does a great job with his work, I think he should be allowed to slip up occasionally. Nobody is perfect.
I totally agree adimifus - it seems that SAG is very, very good about announcing availability and answering questions generally. I had only been monitoring this forum initially - but when he said pre-orders for SD2SNES were going to begin soon I also began monitoring the actual store site daily as well, so that's how I found out. Since then I've become aware of the Facebook page where I see SAG constantly responding to customer questions, and usually very quickly too. It looks like they do a great job. I saw that they did post all the SD2SNES info there as well, and I also saw the advance warning about new mega everdrive stock there and was able to get in on this batch too - looking forward to the save states Those did sell out pretty fast too. I think they lasted about 4 or 5 hours this time -- though thats still way more than the 2 or 3 minutes of SD2SNES. Sometimes with too many channels to keep up with one inevitably gets forgotten. Whenever I consider a pending announcement critical, I always default straight to the official site for information, as thats the best way to guarantee you don't miss out. People are humans, mistakes are made. I still don't think SAG was wrong for not taking unlimited orders though; I've seen that become a far bigger disaster than this incident has been. With the 64Drive last year orders piled up way faster than anyone had ever dreamed - just like with SD2SNES. Some people did not get their carts for 4 or 5 months after orders, and there were lots of people upset with how long it took. Heck, I ordered about 4 hours after they were up, and the backlog of orders set me back 2.5 months on getting mine. In that regard, I definitely think its much better for everyone in the long run not to over commit yourself. Demand will level out and more will come. Unlimited preorders doesn't necessarily mean you will get yours much faster - it all depends. It seems like any route would come with its own drama. It seem like SAG has heard the complaints of the people that missed out, and its up to them now to decide what method will best work for them in the future.
It does work with SupaBoy. Even works running off battery. Now how long the battery will last I am not sure. I posted some pictures on my FB page: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.457389430944136.121164.136116593071423&type=1
Its actually pretty good. Please note there are two layers of screen protection on it as well. Taking a still picture of a screen like this isn't the best way to show off its quality.
Got my sd2snes. It's pretty amazing. UI is very good for the limitation of the system. Probably the best of the retro flash cart. I love how the load of rom is done, very smooth and super quick. Also, on the first boot, it generates a temp file to list all the items (if the content changes, it will redo one on the next boot). Using this process makes it possible to navigate a directory with 1500-2000 roms at blazing speed. If FX and SA-1 support can be added along with a Load/Save State feature like the Mega Everdrive, this would really make it the perfect. After one evening of messing around with it, I decided to sell both my SNES PowerPak and my Super Everdrive. The sd2snes blows them out of the water with speed, compatibility and ease of use with the saves. Obviously, it comes with a price as it's the most expensive one yet.
I just finished acquiring all the "playable without knowledge of Japanese language" special chip cartridges to complete my set. I look forward to this supporting FX and maybe one or two other chips but just in case, it seems like the prices are so low on the games from Japan that right now is the right time to obtain them. And I also got the DSP3 game to complete that series of games. It is actually semi-playable. Half the menus are in English in SD Gundam GX and the rest of the game is all in Japanese (I'm not sure if the correct term is Kanji, as I have limited knowledge of the culture). I also found that there is a SD Gundam G Next which uses SA-1 as well as is compatible with Broadcast Satellaview (BS). I guess, in the future, if SA-1 is compatible with the sd2snes this will present a challenge as someone will probably want compatibility to the gundam plugins for this cartridge/device. It actually looks like the cart you plug in top of the SFC when using the BS but it has one built in game. It's good stuff but the best game of the bunch is Jikkyo Oshaberi Parodius which uses SA-1 chip. I'd have to say that after researching this further, FX games are the best group of special chip games besides CX4 Capcom (Megaman X2 and X3) which already run fine on the sd2snes. SD F-1 Grand Prix is okay but it lacks the charm of Super Mario Kart. Bomberman Panic Bomber World is a SA-1 cartridge and is a puzzle game like Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine (I forgot what game that originally was). And of course there is Dragon Ball Z Hyper Dimension which was pretty good. Note worthy RPG/Js are Far East of Eden Zero, Star Ocean, Marvelous, and Super Robot Taisen Gaiden. Star Ocean will work on sd2snes without any question but the rest haven't been fully hacked or translated. Far East of Eden Zero uses the SPC7110 chip and is a very interesting looking game to me and Marvelous looks pretty decent as well. I haven't played an RPG all the way through since Chrono Trigger back in the 1990s but these games look like they have a lot of promise if they get translated. Star Ocean is already translated and expanded so it can be played on sd2snes and super powerpak.
Yes people certainly talk alot about the 1% of games that you can't play on existing copiers and flash carts. Some of them are quite good games but people act as though they are unobtainable. The only one that is true about is Star Fox 2 since it was unreleased. But every other special chip game is easily available. The Mega Man X games are a bit expensive but they are still available. The best feature of the SD2SNES in my opinion is the nicer GUI, faster loading, and MSU-1 support.
Yeah so I have to take my comment back about SA-1 a little bit although I didn't touch on the Kirby games which are very very good games. I actually got a lot of replay value out of Kirby Superstar which is a multi game pak and I played that a lot more than all the FX and CX chip games combined. I forgot to mention earlier when I posted this too that I believe Nintendo pulled the SNES off the market too soon. I remember looking forward to Kirby Superstar, I was way hyped about it. It was like one of the best games ever to come out and one of the last games for snes. I didn't buy an N64 until probably 2005 or so. SNES still dominates it although with flash cart, one could play NES games on an N64 these days so that holds some value too. It is always good to support DSP too though. Pilotwings, imo, is the best of the bunch. Mario Kart is good too but Pilotwings has more variety in game play and the DSP chip is put to better use in it. Although Star Fox 2 was unreleased, I never really got hooked on it. It's an alright game. I got all the FX games because I wanted to be able to play the full library. There is a guy who claims to own the only one existing Socks the Cat Rocks the Hill for SNES. It does not use a special chip but he wants $4,500 for it. So it is just an example that we can't ever really have everything. Also I'm still uncertain if a finished prototype of Comanche ever existed. I wasn't at E3 to see how the booth was set up so I can't claim whether or not the game was really running from the SNES deck itself. We have seen in the past that some developers at E3 have used PC to display games that they were promising on console. There's some other unreleased games out there I'm sure and who knows if we'll ever see them. I think we were just fortunate that someone was kind enough to release the Star Fox 2 for everyone to see. There were a lot of people hoping and waiting for that game and the release of the final build was pretty amazing. Others just want to hoard and talk about a game and try to milk a bunch of cash out of it but I guess everyone is different. What I like about the sd2snes follows exactly what you said plus that it is open source and people have the opportunity to attempt to get a variety of games to run on it as well as possibly use it for debugging etc. It is a great thing to see come out for the snes. I was originally very impressed with the MSU-1 demos on youtube and that is what hooked me in. I didn't believe it was real at first because it took a long time for it to come out, but once I started seeing more and more prototypes and a couple more videos I knew for sure that this was not vaporware. Now that I have wasted cash on the super ufo pro 8 SD.......... hindsight. ps this board needs a Post Icon for sd2snes

Thank you! I eagerly await the shipment of the sd2snes. I'm order 0000002263. Keep up the good work. I imagine it is no fun assembling carts day after day, but I think I speak for everyone when I say we truly appreciate it. I got a really nice Sony Trinitron CRT television for 30$ off of craigslist just for this cart! I think I will play the Mega Man X series first!
hmm.. well I'm impressed. I played jikkyou oshaberi parodius and sd f-1 world racing on bsnes and they were ok. But I got the real carts now and tried them. I had to use my neoflash neo snes myth cart to get them to run via passthru. They are a lot more enjoyable on the actual hardware than on the emulator. SD F-1 runs perfect and is a very fun game. It feels like playing super mario kart but with more variety in game play and the map feels a little larger for some reason. Also parodius is good. It suffers from slowdown in some areas but it runs smooth. Both of these are SA-1 games. Hopefully this device will support them in the future but I'm fine with buying the spare carts as there aren't very many titles to obtain from japan.
Got my Sd2snes in mailbox yesterday fiddled with it a lot ... tried some MSU games, but i can't get chrono trigger to work nor does super mario odessy play with orchestrated music... some times i get a wierd flickering screen of the menu with japanese signs here and there anybody else have these problems? or can get these msu-1 demo's/games to work?
I am having issues getting MSU1 games to play correctly as well. SMOdyssey plays but without music and Super Road Blaster doesn't play at all. I think I am doing something wrong though because I can't get either to play in BSNES either. I even tried a few different types of SD cards.
i haven't any problem with road blaster. there are the 1.0 version and it works in 60Hrz. http://dforce3000.de/ for chrono trigger in my opinion it's too old now (when the project was 21fx...) i don't where i can get super mario odyssey with the new music.
