Ah ha! I was wondering what Universal Shells meant. I always assumed it was some funny looking Action 52'ish shell design or something. Thanks for clearing that up.
Can someone please advise if I am correct in thinking these are the games currently supported by this cart, which the Everdrive cannot run: Mega Man X2 Mega Man X3 ALL DSP/varaitions games? Does that include Top Gear racer 3000? The recent Road Blaster. I guess the reason to purchase this cart is the possibility of Super FX, SA-1 and S-DD1??
and playing fantastic homebrew ports like the Road Blaster one can't get the link again right now, but i was surfing the other day and i pretty sure i SAW that for real O___O
SuperFX he is working on, but I haven't read any kind of ETA from him. Ikari has said he isn't sure if SA-1 is even possible, but he is not looking at it until the other features he's working on are done. That includes Action Replay and Game Genie. Aren't S-DD1 games workable with modification and being able to play a larger rom size? I think he's got it where it more closely emulates the original BS-X hardware, where all kinds of patches are not needed.
Something like 1% or less of SNES games contains additional hardware. The games that EverDrive with DSP1 cannot play that this can are: Mega Man X2, Mega Man X3, Dungeon Master, SD Gundam GX, Top Gear 3000, possibly some other japanese only titles. He lists these chips as supported: S-RTC BS-X / Satellaview DSP1 DSP1b DSP2 DSP3 DSP4 ST0010 MSU1 Cx4 If he can manage to implement Super FX, he can probably implement SDD-1 too. OBC-1 could probably be done easily. Maybe also the japanese SPC7110 chip could be done too. SA-1 who knows. Maybe a limited implementation could get commercial games functional.
I'll be keeping my eyes on this project. If it ever gets SA-1 support, I'll be all over it. If not, I'm happy to stay with my PowerPak.
That's the SPC7110, which ikari has not yet mentioned SD2SNES will support. Though I imagine the hardware present is capable of supporting it. Only time will tell. The good news about this whole announcement is that hopefully it'll give ikari more time to improve SD2SNES (such as developing SuperFX support) rather than spending more of his time just making the cartridges. Though I still want to see the EverDrive for the PC-Engine.
There are (by my count) about 52 games: 2.78% (91 distinct ROMs: 2.90%) that currently will not work, excluding the one Shougi game that will never work.
Well for that to happen I'd need people to cancel their pre-orders with me and order from a shop instead I hope that will happen a lot (That sounds paradox but it will really benefit sd2snes.) Oh, and SPC7110 is likely possible but I didn't look into it so far.
I can't imagine building the actual PCBs. Doing Deluxe Editions is very very time consuming for me, so I can't imagine the PCBs. I was going to make a video one day of the process from start to finish making an ED64. I may still do that. I did make a video awhile back of me coloring cart shells: http://youtu.be/aiwWfcj4hto
This may sound a little bit off topic but we need a stick thread of the upcoming Everdrives and now everdrive partnership projects with the latest news. I think most of people here, are just like me, waiting for the mega everdrive, pc-engine everdrive and now SD2SNES. So.. it would be awesome something like c4evaspeaks.com with organized information. I volunteer to keep the thread up to date. ))
I agree veggav, really by the end of the summer there may be 8 flash carts KRIKzz is making 7 EverDrives and the SD2SNES. Each one has certain features, abilities, and compatibility. It would be nice to have a central location for all this information, whether its pinned threads on here or maybe a site. I would be happy to host a site if someone can point me in the direction of free management or wiki-like software or whatever they want to use and then I could give certain people access to update and manage data. If someone is interested in doing this and Igor is cool with it I will buy a domain and I can host it.
SEGA Everdrive-MD SNES Super Everdrive SMS Master Everdrive Everdrive GG EverDrive 64 MEGA EVERDRIVE SD 2 SNES thats 7 ... whats 8th ?
you can use wikispace it's very easy to use and ready to go. Users can add info in the very same way of the original wikipedia
