I posted some info on this in 'remarkable deals' section. The wife was surfing around and looking for a birthday present (not 37 until April, but hey!) and she stumbled across an auction on eBay for "Sega Manx TT Twin" however, she'd hit BIN and gleefully jumped on me to tell me all about it before I sat her down and discussed A: transport and B: it's size.

So... she got a bit freaked out as she thought it was a single seater and that the 'twin' was some kind of terminology relating to the superbike (I guess like, twin ejector seats in a jet plane or something... who know?!)

Anyway, long story short she picked up Manx TT Superbike Twin (with a faulty monitor of the right hand side (which again could have led her to believe it was a single unit next to another single unit) for... drum roll please... £100.00 which is astonishing! Even more remarkable is that it's complete, no missing parts and other than the monitor it's apparently in good condition. no missing graphics, the bikes have been resprayed professionally and kitted out with motorbike liveries etc. Even if it turned into a 6' by 7' turkey, it's got to be worth more in parts than she paid!

For those who are not familiar with it, http://www.weinerd.com/images/brochures/manxttb.jpg

I'd previously admitted to her in the passing that it was probably the single most played arcade title in my youf. We went to the Isle of Man, where these cabinets were compulsory (every business had to have one... by law! Joke!) and where ever we trudged on that cold, damp, wet holiday my brother and I ended up challenging one another on Manx TT.

This is it, the very last. I can say that with all honesty as this is a beast of a machine and will take up the back end of my garage. When we want to mow the grass, it'll only happen after we've clambered over 2 Sega motorbikes!

Where you have Manx TT hardware, you can also use: Motor Raid!

A good find indeed. It is quite common for these things to go for a low price, though - same with Virtua Racing. The reason is, of course, the size. You need a decent sized van to pick them up, and lots of muscle! What did she pick it up in, then?

Of the same era, there's still a Sega Touring Car twin sit-down in my cinema. It's set to £1 a go!!! Yeah right!

By the way, I feel sorry for your Mrs. Whenever she goes out to the garage to see where you are, she'll be greeted by your arse waving about!

Potentially covering up a knackered video chip I think... thank GOD Sega Shed has a spare, albeit it will cost me the earth lol.

I had a close look at that image afterwards too. For £100 he can have smeared the second monitor in peanut butter for all I care, so long as No1 monitor works and the second unit is still repairable.

Some people do odd, odd things with listings. Let's hope it is the precise unit as pictured and not a stock image. That would annoy me greatly!

    God, what a prospect!

Can you show us the auction, or a pic of the unit you're getting?

*EDIT: never mind I see it, looks pretty sweet

You think this is odd... Some of the shit ive been told when buying items is just plain weird.

Thats the thing though i do wonder if thats the machine your getting. He said the problem is likely a monitor chassis repair so i dont understand why he would do that to the picture unless he wants to make sure people know the monitor is shot or its a stock picture that hes copied from somewhere.

We shall find out! I have asked him on 2 separate occasions to supply me with additional images and his communication skills are awful.

He hasn't considered the wrath of my wife! If she gets messed around she had a tendency to pull out the stops. She's not the contracts manager for a major employment agency for nothing!

Judge for yourselves. There is a jagged edge to the screen 2 image, as if tampered with. (Oh wait, it could be a C64 load up screen ;-))

The other explanation being that this is the unit, but prior to it going faulty. I did spot the lack of exhausts, but they are supplied, which is good because they are speakers! I guess we'll find out soon enough!

You can always stick some car door speakers on, works wonders

LOL - don't say that to Retro though eh ;-)

It's a pair of subwoofers at the rear of the bikes so that you feel like you are really on a bike. Rumbling and farting away. The exhausts are actually the speaker chambers!

Located a replacement VB board for it, so if the worst comes to the worst and the Model 2A mbd is knackered I can get spares.

Haha, car door speakers per se aren't that bad... they're just no match for a decent home audio speaker. I hate it when the chavvy kind boast about their car system, then you get in and listen and it sounds completely shite... usually because they haven't set it up right. Half of it is because they have ludicrous subs in the boot. My friend got a setup with 6x9s in the parcel shelf, standard door speakers and a pair of those little directional tweeters for the dash. The 6x9s gave a nice grunt without that overpowering boom, and the tweeters really made a difference. It just introduced much more clarity than the door speakers could manage. Hmm, I wonder what'd happen if you put some in a cab......

A pair of 15watt speakers will out perform a boy racer as long as you screw them tightly into a solid door with a good stable surround. All of the cheap ass cars they drive around in can't handle the speakers because the shitty cardboard door cards they have them in shake and vibrate, same thing happens when you stick them in a parcel shelf.

Ah how I miss the go faster days.

Anyhoo, I can see why he's butchered the picture with MS paint he's clearly one of those people who thinks that if he can't fix it nobody can and so to try his luck he's attempted to make it look like it's switched off.

When you pay him he'll probably think it's the sale of the century.

Short of him driving a hammer through the screen and having flames burst out of it, I cannot see an issue. The auction states 'one side down, probably a monitor fault'. Which usually means 'we switched it on, we got no video and we have listed it with the most readily repairable and replaceable part as the culprit knowing full well (cause they'll have swapped the boards me thinks) it's the hard to locate, obtain and purchase VB!'

I tell thee, thankfully Andy Lewis is stocked with almost every Sega spare part imaginable.

Whatever is wrong, it will not defeat me! (famous last words!)
