As I said before, just porting over Sega Racing Classic and restoring the licensed elements with support for up to 40 players online would be considered bare minimum, which is the most we can realistically expect from Sega these days. Any more, such as getting Sumo Digital to create a new sequel or reboot of the whole franchise, might be asking too much...
‘Today we are happy to announce the triumphant return of the cherished arcade racer, Daytona USA! Speeding out of the past from its 1993 debut, Daytona USA will be racing onto Xbox LIVE Arcade for and PlayStation Network. The classic title has been tuned up and overhauled with enhanced graphics, steering wheel support and, for the first time on home consoles, online multiplayer. Daytona USA will be available as a speedy digital download in North America on October 25 for PlayStation Network ($9.99) and October 26 for Xbox LIVE Arcade (800 Microsoft Points), and in late November in Europe.’ ray:
God, I hope Sumo get this, and it is a no-frills port of the arcade (maybe with HD as an option!) Sega Racing Classic is already an HD version of Daytona without the branding, so it should be an easy job! They did a blinding job with Outrun 2 on the 360, so I can't imagine a Daytona port would be an issue! My Daytona upright is screwed, as the Model 2 PCB's are really flaky! If I could get a 360 inside there hooked up to the controls and outputting on the Mid-Res monitor, that could be a plan! *Mind you, the 360 is probably more flaky than the Model 2 PCB, LOL*
According to joystiq, "presented in HD, widescreen format, steering wheel support (all wheels for Xbox 360, and only Logitech GT Driving Force on PS3) and eight-player online racing."
You can see the first footage of the digital re-make of Daytona USA on SEGA's YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxQWzcB2nQI
They may add a 4:3 screen option. The recent release of Space Channel 5 part 2 for Xbox Live has both widescreen and normal Dreamcast style 4:3 options. Then again that isn't on the PlayStation Store and Daytona is. We all know about Sony's bull shit everything has got to be high resolution widescreen approach. The video on Sega's YouTube channel looks really nice but I can't see these all new graphics. Looks just like the original running in 1080p when I use the model 2 emulator. Yakumo
Just as I thought: it looks as if we're getting a bare minimum port of Sega Racing Classic with the licensed "Daytona" elements restored! Sega, you surprise me yet again...
Yeah it's too bad when Sega was trying to pitch Yakuza no one but Sony wanted to give them the time of day with their idea. Which is why it's remained a Playstation only franchise thus far. According to an interview of course.
I don't mind the graphics, or the fact that it's a port of Sega Racing Classic, the only thing I care about are the Online Multiplayer and Control Handling. The 8 players Online is good enough for me (40 player support would have been amazing though), I just hope the handling is well done, the analog controls in Sega Rally Online were great.
I agree. I'd be more than happy to pay 800 points for this as long as it controlled well. Just think, online Daytona. It's the closest we can get to the original arcade experience plus, now that I have the official 360 wheel, this is going to kick arse. Yakumo.
I'm very jealous of the 360 wheel + Daytona Yakumo:-0 I'm going to buy PSN points for the first time JUST for this.. Can't wait for online multi player
As much as I love the Dreamcast version, I really hope this is not a conversion of that. Just give me a carbon copy of the original arcade version, with an HD option!
Not unless you own the arcade machine of course  Flappy paddle gearing will do zero for the arcade experience as a number of corners you do near to go from 4th to 2nd with a minimal amount of braking to go around as fast as possible. So Sega have screwed it up unless on the PS3 it is compatable with the G25/G27.
