Pretty much what I was after. I liked 2001 but I always wanted the arcade version with a little sugar sprinkled on top really. Reminds me of my adolescence, good times...
It's up on XBLA, and it's pretty much a port of the original arcade with some extra modes (including Karaoke mode :-0). Handles pretty damn well too.
"Challenge mode: Knock down ten traffic cones within the time limit!" It's fantastic. On a somewhat unrelated note, my phone now yells 'Rolling Start!' when I get a text message.
Yep, been on it a lot last night. Even Forza and Shadows of the Damned got pushed aside for the whole night. Playing Daytona with the wheel is just like being in the arcades! I'm really liking it. Although the extra modes are basically stuff that were in the Saturn version of the game such as Karaoke mode and the option to race 80 odd laps. I do like the addition of challenges though. Also, it's good to see that the game was converted in Japan by Sega and not some shitty 3rd party company which I was really hoping wouldn't happen.
It really is a great port, although the multiplayer part is a little barebones, and it's really annoying you can't change the lobby settings or even pick your track (so you're stuck with random selection or just one track) once you start the lobby.
I do sort of wish that Sega had released a Sega Ages collection for the new consoles rather then do releases like this. A Daytona collection with Daytona USA (Arcade and Saturn), Championship Edition (Saturn), Daytona USA 2001 (Dreamcast), Daytona 2 (Arcade) and Daytona 2 Power Edition (Arcade) along with a decent manual and extras on the disc like arcade manuals, sketches, etc like they did with Fantasy Zone, etc. A Ridge Racer collection would be nice, but it would effectively limit it to Ridge Racer (Arade), Ridge Racer Revolution (Playstation), Rave Racer (Arcade) and Ridge Racer V : Arcade Battle (Arcade) as the other games are more console driven games and not really quick pick and and play games, although the courses could be added. Again on disc with a nice manual and bonus content.
when is it hitting the PAL PS3 store? I want to play it. Plus, I demand SEGA RALLY 2 (arcade) as a downloadable on the PSN so I can hook up my wheel. I vow to buy a couple of those cabs when I make enough..hopefully.
Well, it's the first time there's been online play in REAL Daytona, not one of the inferior sequels
