Because Its the cheapest, easiest, lowest skill set required "mod" that the average person can accomplish. Not everyone can rewire, shrink or re purpose electronics or have the knowledge/skill set required to recreate or modify a case. Nothing against putting LEDs in things and calling it a mod, I've done it myself but I agree to there being a limit to how many LEDs can be in a case before it looks ridiculous.
I just carefully pried the thing apart with a really thin flat head screwdriver. I wish I had more transparent dongles I only own two. I like Leds, I think when you turn on a regular Xbox is boring and dull but I enjoy the fact that when you press the button to turn it on the whole room lights up lol but I don't know, everyone has their own opinions. I just learned how to do it, I couldn't find any guides. when I managed to complete 3 controllers I was excited and I'd thought I would share it
ironicly enough i posted a guide on how to add LEDs to controller dongles a few days before you did this haha.... but good job looks cool!
Its really neat and clever actually definitely need a simple guide for stuff. I might make a guide on how to add LEDs to your controller.
Abazz would you consider doing a detailed video on how to do the relay mod? Decided to try your composite to Component cable tutorial.. Took the time to save the original connector, thought you might enjoy seeing the outcome of my attempt:
There is nothing wrong with adding LED's too something.. Everyone starts somewhere, granted people often use the wrong type LED's and that can negatively impact the final product.. I am a bit afraid that the art of modding electronics, especially consoles is dying
I think maybe what you were meaning is that you're saddened that the art of really modding a system has died down so much to be just a lot of people simply putting LEDs in the system and calling it modded. When before it was more involved and detailed and commanded a bit more respect due to the amount of time and effort that went into the customization?
yea just take your time i like to use a no dvd check bios then use a ide desktop to ide laptop adapter
those look great!! compared to mine haha... i did mean to save the connector and reinstall it but i realized i forgot it after all the soldering. the mess of hot glue was an after thought.... well then i have the tutorial for you! lol
I made a second cable the other day. I found the 360 cables that don't have that cylinder on the cable after the plug work best, allows you to pull the original Xbox rubber back far enough on the cable to not have to use shrink tube. Completely clean finish, even repinched the 360 wire in the shielding.
Well I got bored of having basic white LEDs in my crystal Xbox and I happen to have an Xerc 2 XE and a PulseVU 2X Chip I bought from a while ago but Never used them until now. Right now I have Electrical tape holding the LEDs in place in the Xbox where I didnt want to hot glue them in yet... There's about 34 LEDs going around the "X" Trim on the Top shell. I also have the Gem Logo fading with the Xerc when the E/P PCB Fades. This is the first time I've ever installed something like this before So here's a couple pics/video about it. I used Basic Color LEDs for the X Trim but for the controller ports I ordered in Slow & fast RGB Leds that change/blink colors which is perfect for the crystal Console. If you're interested go to http://lighthouseleds.com/ they have all of it. I added more than just 5 LEDs per controller, there's now 12. Christmas Came early eh Hex1gon? lol
