I wonder how they're going to handle the voice acting, part of the charm for me was how stiff everything was but given how that might be reviewed poorly today I doubt they'll do it.
BTW can anyone who has an account in Kickstarter ask how they gonna share the digital copies. It would be downloadable isos or thourgh some sort of service provider e.g. Steam, GOG. Also they have added more goals, now asking for 5 million for all the extra features.
If Sega is not involved, a big part of the charm of Shenmue is gone for me. Shenmue without Sega arcades and Sega figures to collect....ugh.
I'm pretty sure English and Japanese subs are going to be the primary languages they're going to be making for Shenmue III from the start hence why English subs isn't a stretch goal.
Nothing can compare to Sega because...it's goddamn Sega. Hopefully they haven't gotten the idea that anyone actually cares about the hokey storyline or takes the games seriously in any way, Shenmue is all about tons of weird detail and borderline absurd things that are only accentuated by the stiffness of the dialog and voice acting.
Without doing any research, I would assume Steam over GoG. I personally would prefer GoG, but that's just me.
For the amount of money they raised, it would have to be pretty damn bug free. Knowing game production today, I doubt this. I hope fans get what they really want. How many of you thinking this could really fuck up, from a real die hard fan's point of view?
This is my gut feeling. Yu Suzuki doesn't exactly have the best track record of managing this series' cost well. I still threw money at it though. -_-
Just checked the posts and you're right you didn't say that sonicsean89 did thanks for letting me know, the post has been fixed.
Developing a damn good game on PS4 costs milllions. If the campaign ends with more than $10 millions then they will be quite confortable to produce a good one but don´t think they are already making enough money to get back on track with the third episode of the serie. Let´s wait and see.
Sony have apparently confirmed sponsorship of the project. http://www.polygon.com/2015/6/16/8792627/shenmue-3-sony-funding-development
It's obviously going to get some outside funding, I'm just hoping Sega sees the ridiculous support the game ($3.22 million right now) as a sign that maybe people are interested in their properties that AREN'T Sonic. I love Sonic and all, but coming out with a new mediocre at best Sonic game every year and letting things like Virtua Fighter (no game since 2012), Jet Grind Radio (no original game since 2003), Vectorman, Nights, Altered Beast, etc languish is ridiculous.
Uh... After seeing what they did with NiGHTS, Altered Beast, and almost Vectorman, I'm perfectly fine with them leaving those titles alone.
EDIT2!: Wait a sec "Ys Net has not announced any other funding sources beyond the Kickstarter campaign for Shenmue 3." So no SCE is not funding it thus my original post is valid! PS4 first maybe but afaik it won't be exclusive.
